These would be for very basic home-studio work. I'm a lone ameteur using an Mbox/Protools to create backing tracks for jamming lead guitar. A lot of the material is midi, but also with some acoustic guitar backup.

I just need something reasonably comfortable and with adequate performance to monitor tracks while dubbing over.

Thanks for any recommendations.

For $100, I have and like AKG K240s. Everyone else is gonna say Sennheiser HD-280's, which I'm gonna buy next time I need a pair, just cuz everyone recommends em so much!

For <$50, I bought a buncha AKG K55's for tracking once, I think they were like $35 ea. They sounds pretty good and they all still work many years later.

Yeah, I've just been reading the other thread. Several mentions there. Guitar Center lists them for $119.99, but I guess that's close enough if they're really that "great". Somebody else though said they have a heavy spiral cord -- a definite turn-off for me, since I have some muscle scar in my neck and shoulder from an old injury. Light weight will be important.

I have AKG K-66 units and like them for around $50. They are not closed back so wouldn't be great for tracking, but they are comfortable and sound pretty good. I've had a couple of jacks break, but that may have been due more to abuse than build quality.

MoreMe cans are pretty rugged and decent for tracking. Check out Harvey Gerst's page as he sells them. They are inexpensive.

I got a set of Sennheiser HD201's the other day for £15 and they seem really nice. Good detail, maybe a little less on the low-end, but amazing for the price!

Well I just got back from a lunch-time pop-out to GC. The AKG K240's sure felt a lot more comfortable to me than the Sennheiser HD-280's. They've got them on-sale for $119.99.

I also tried on the AKG K99's, going for $79.99. Also comfotable, but most stuff I've read on them indicates more for video games, etc. than true studio use.

More Me headphones are $30 for the deluxe version. I have the standard ($20) ones, and I like them a lot.

Their literature admits they're not up to the level of AKG, but they're really nice and have a decent warranty.
