Can anyone tell me what the difference is in these? They look identical in the advertisments except for the finish. The M-72 has a lower list price, but I don't immediately see why.

BTW, for those who missed it in the Pilot thread, I got the M-77 and it was fine. The weird blue color is kind of off-putting and the gold-tone accents are more gaudy than pimp socks, but as an axe, it's just fine, almost as nice as my M-77T, which is possibly the best guitar I've ever owned at any price, and a good deal more conservative-looking in basic black-&-chrome.

Thanks.;)

If you want a great, cheap bass, get an Ibanez.

The wiring is solid and the knobs won't fall off.

According to Fender Frontline 2001.....

The M77 has a carved maple top on a tone chambered agathis body, with a maple neck, and block inlays on the fretboard.
The M72 Has a mahogany tone chambered body with a figured maple top, a mahogany neck, and dot inlays on the neck.

H2H

ps. Ibanez sucks! :)

yeah, but what year model actually arrives at your doorstep might make a difference in the inlays........the photo in samash shows my M-68 with dots, but a 2000 model arrived with those cheesy blocks.....but I love the guitar.....I hope the M-72 that's back ordered has the damn dots.......I don't care what year....I just want dots this time.....gibs

Apparently the tailpieces are different between years, too, as is the purfling.

Years make a lot of difference in most of these models, and I personally prefer the newer ones, by miles. Better necks, less storage damage, nicer fittings.

I don't mind the block inlays. The pearlescent celluloid is somewhat funky-looking up close compared to real MOP, but real MOP shrinks and comes loose, if you live long enough. My '62 ES-330TDC has a couple that are going to have to be crazy-glued back down as soon as I figure a way to do it without winding up with the whole guitar stuck to me somehow.

But what I really wanted to know is if the top is arched on both models. Can't tell from the illustrations.
