I have a pair of Rode NT1000's that I've had for quite a few years. They worked flawlessly for a few projects and I love them to death for overheads. I also absolutely think they are awesome for acoustic instruments and vocals. To make a long story short I'd be mad if they got stolen or destroyed.
So I had them set up as overheads over my drummer's house for a few months and when I finally brought them back and tried to use the one for vocals I noticed the gain was horribly low. I tried an SM57 I had laying around and gain was good... so that eliminated the pre / cabling. For reference I'm using an ART TPS tube pre with this through an ART VLA. I love the sound. Anyways... I tried the other NT1000 and it worked fine... so I was able to finish my recording that day. I opened up the bad NT1000 and it looked like it had been dropped as the foam thingy that sits between the outside case and the condenser had been kind of ripped off... and it looked that way when I took it out of the box, but I didn't think anything of it.
To make a long story short I called Rode and apparently they have a 10 year warranty on their mikes. So I sent it back and hopefully I'll have it back relatively soon (within the next couple of weeks). The person I spoke to there was actually a human being and seemed to really care about the product. Just wanted everyone to know. I'll keep you posted.
