Yes,

I don't think those Tascam units had inserts, so you would have to go inline.

source > dbx > Tascam

or,

source > mic-pre + dbx inserted > Tascam

or to compress the entire mix, you could use it in a strapped configuration

Tasam > dbx > CDR/TAPE/MINIDISC/DAW, etc.

ok i'm really confused now, on the back of the compressor there are now 1/4 inch jacks or XLR inputs or anything like that. it just has terminals that are the type you connect bare wire to(like the ones on the back of speakers). it also has an a jack on it that says Stereo Coupler. how the hell do i hook it up inline if there's no inputs?
 
Don't be confused...

The unit is older and has barrier strips. To wire it up you need to make what is commonly called a harness. You need XLR in and out connectors and six wires. If you don't have any experience soldering, just take the unit to a pro audio store in your area and tell them you need it wired for XLR in and out. If you wish to DIY, contact me.

If you don't want to bother with wiring it up and everything or you just want to get rid of it, LMK. I might take if off your hands for a good price ;)
