In which part of the song? There are open harmonics in the beginning on the E and B strings. There's a wah pedal during the solo. In the studio he used a violin bow. That high tone you hear during the verse that come in after "soul of a woman was created below" may have been an eventide harmonizer playing his guitar line an octave higher OR it could have been double tracked. The entire album was done on a Telecaster (the one with the carved dragon on it) he uses reverb throughout the track as well. Maybe the part you're referring to is the violin bow across the strings with a lot of reverb. It's the descending part just before the drums come back in.

Oh, btw, if you decide to do this and play with a violin bow, make sure that if you strike the strings with it with some force (see what he does during the solo on the movie "The Song Remains the Same" when he does the echo/light thing) What was I saying? Oh yeah, if you're striking the string with some force, do it across the fret board NOT across the pickups. This prevents the strings from bending down into the pickup area, forcing the strings out of tune......don't ask my how I know this ;) :D

Ok that was mainly what i was looking for, yeah i knew about the bow(great dvd by the way hehe) but when he uses the bow are there 2 guitar tracks or is there some kinda effect that doubles the one he is using(there is a more normal guitar sound) and also what amp does he use
but you mainly got it so thanks

Jimmy Page has always been a master sound crafter especially in the studio. Always brilliant! I think for the most part he used a tiny Supro amp on that album, and on many other albums and tracks as well.

ok thanks, so thats pretty much everything other than when the violin plays is there a sererate guitar track behind it or it it some effect that seems to be making another one

i take that back it sounds like a seperate track, i just put on headphones and noticed the panning, regular guitar one side bowed guitar other side
thanks guys

Eventide Harmonizers debuted around 1975 or so. A bit later than D&C.

More like Varispeed tape decks or mayba an Octavia. According to Roger Mayers' website Page was using a Mayer-designed distortion pedal in his early studio work. The Octavia is the sound on Hendrix' Purple Haze solo.

I believe that it was actually a cello bow, as they have more hair on them, and are sturdier. But Jimmy Page still ripped through them anyway. :D

(nitpick, nitpick, nitpick. sorry. :) )
