I've been recording and making music for 4 years, but I never use one of those....
I mix with my mouse using mixer in DAW.

My friend said he just like the feeling of putting his fingers in an "actual" faders.....but that answer can't convince me enough.....and I saw some demo or tutorial videos on youtube about "how to use a control surface", honestly.....its so confusing since you need to remember which buttons are set to be what and the other way around....

I wanna know what are the advantages using a control surface like Behringer BCF2000 or etc, and if people using it because you will mix better with it or its just a matter of habit....

ive had several keyboards and mpds with pads, buttons, and faders and always end up using the mouse....i think if you had a big enough motorized set of faders theyd be used but other than that no..unnecessary

i like having transport buttons but have found using a wireless keyboard and a set of stickers with the shortcuts on them like these Ableton Live keyboard sticker | eBay is by far the best control surface

For live mixing I need faders.

For studio stuff, the most I would use faders for is to set a rough automation record but all the detail is still done with the mouse. My mixes are often tweaked down to the phrase or even the note/syllable and there's no way I can do that manually.

...so, no, I don't need a control surface. It can be useful but it's far from a necessity.
