Sure Tommy, thank you too.
I'm glad you got the discs, and I'm glad you like them.
With 105 musical cuts, the details are many, and as the recordings span almost 20 years, the production techniques changed considerably, over the years. Those songs aren't any one thing, and weren't done any one way, as I'm sure is obvious, when listening. I remember most of the details of most of the songs. I'll someday work on some tech notes to give a few details, and forward that to you.
I recorded about 1/3 of the songs solo, 1/3 with a group, live in studio, and about 1/3 with just me & a drummer, live-in-studio, then added overdubs myself, later.
The equipment that was used varied, but there's lots of cuts done on the Tascam 38 with M30 mixer, the 244, and the 424mkII. Other cuts may have been direct to cassette, VHS hifi, and even a few recorded directly to the PC.
Most cuts used Shure SM57 mics, on all or part of the production, as well as Teac, Audio Technica and various other mics on some of the oldest stuff.
Lots of songs that appear on the 3-cd Anthology which are relatively stripped down, have open tracks on the 8-track reel, to potentially expand the production, at some later date. Many other produced numbers are on a 4-or-8-track format, and stand as they are, completed, with no open tracks for expansion. Anyway, being 105 musical cuts, covering ~20 years, the production details are many.
You're right about your mood being translated to tape. Keep it light, and have as much fun with music as you possibly can, and your tapes will have good energy.
Good luck with your recording, and when you come up with something you like, go ahead and send me a copy, I'd appreciated it very much. Take care of yourself, and thanx for taking part in the Davemania project.
T/y later, your friend, Dave.
