alright so I live in North Springfield, VA (6 miles outside of DC) and Dave's mom lives 4 streets down from me (my mom and her are "buddies") i went into her house the other night and he has a studio in his moms basement and they have a vocal booth made up of quilts and mic stands and their gear isn't top of the line AT ALL and it's very conforting to know this haha but aparently they recorded most of their stuff in Daves house in alexandria... haven't seen this studio Does anyone have some pics?

Ya know...I was reading in my PC magazine today...and it was talking about the word 'geek'. Up until the 90's, it was very unflattering, but nowadays is actually an 'attractive' noun...or however you want to use it. At the turn of the century, a 'geek' was usually someone that bit off chicken heads in the circus... some one of that stature. I guess Ozzie skipped right past the "geek" status. Funny how words evolve...just like the geeks in my old school days... all the rich bastards!!

The less funny point is I have that book, signed by the author. My wife and I have book fetishes. When we moved from CT to NJ 2 years ago about 2/3 of the volume in the moving truck was boxes of books

that'd be awesome to live right down the street from his mom and see his studio. dave is probably one of my biggest role modles. something about him makes me want to rock. i dont think that the studio at his mom's place is THE home studio they record at. i know in his own house he's got a very high tech studio. maybe he's just got some crappy old gear at his moms place in case he comes up with a good idea for a tune when he's at his mom's house. that way he can get down the basics

A guy as successful as Grohl both critically and among fans deserves a lot of respect. But I saw him on TV the other night and he must have the worst mic technique I've ever seen short of hip hop MCs. I've joking described some singers as swallowing the mic, but Grohl had his upper lip wrapped over this poor mic. Ick! I dislike the way SM58s sound and they sound even worse and muffled that close with proximity effect and even worse yet when cupped in a fist like many hip hop MC like to do. Granted he had his eyes closed for nearly the entire performance so I think that has something to do with lipping the mic.

Am I way off or is this bad mic technique?
