Does anyone know how or who can do Data recovery on a Tascam 2488neo hard drive that has been corrupted? I think the corruption is limitted to one song but there is a lot of other Data...

the unit actually locks up on startup trying to read this section as it tries to load the last song used automatically... perhaps bypassing this is possible?

I tried Tascam several times and they didn't even respond!

thanks in advance.

The neo can access the drive from usb in what is called usb mode. This is stated in the manual.

"To transfer files and back up and restore data between the 2488neo and a computer, connect them with a USB cable and open the 2488neo's USB mode. When these operations are finished, close the USB connection and disconnect the USB cable."

Have you tried using USB mode?

If the corruption is on the partition that the neo boots from and you cannot get into the unit far enough to get into usb mode, the partitions that hold song data are fat32 disk format according to the manual. You can (if you have the confidence and are willing to risk taking the drive out and tascam is using standard ide or sata drives) remove the drive, connect it to a windows computer and use disk recovery tools. There are some free ones here.

If the data is really important, since it is fat32, you should be able to have a professional shop retreave any data that is not corrupt and perhaps fix the corrupt stuff (but bet you could do it yourself. Once you get all your data, You can reformat the drive. This is documented in the manual.

The FAT 32 partition is for file transfers only.

Song data is proprietary and is not accessible via USB.

If the unit won’t boot you might change the hard drive and get it to come back.

I fear the data on the current disk is lost.

Bummer, it might be worth a try, put a new disk back in, change the default song to the first one then put the other drive back in and see if it boots.

I would still try to access data from the fat partitions though. They may still have some wav data that could be used to reconstruct the songs. Again like Manslick said, the data may be toast. But I would try it if I had data I wanted anyway. Good luck to you in your recovery attempt.

The sad fact is to always back up data you want to keep.
