I just got a Darla 24 and installed it by the book and did this properly. I have also run all the Echo reporter tests and everything is ok, except.....after installing everything, I can't hear any sound at all while using my Darla 24 as the preferred device. This is only for playback. I haven't even tried recording yet. Now by changing the setting back to the ESS Allegro (stock card), everything works for playback but now I'v lost my sounds like my email alert, my ICQ message alert, etc...
Does anyone have any suggestions? Or maybe direct me to the proper posts? I know absolutley zero PC Recording "lingo" so expect to have to explain to a child...lol. Once I get this bug fixed, I'll start asking some real doozies....
thanks

How did you route the outputs of the Darla? You have two inputs and 8 outputs on the breakout box, in order to record obviously you have to plug your recording source into the inputs. To play back, you have to send the outputs from the Darla to your mixing board, or monitor speakers if you don't have an external mixer. Just as you plug your speakers into the line out/speaker out on your ESS, you have to do the same on your Darla if you want to hear the playback.

Thank you

See there.....i didn't know that. Now you will laugh at this but what exactly are "output" devices that may be connected to the Darla. I have only the Darla, so far....no outboard anything except instruments and a mic.

Heres the skinny...output device=speaker.
The Darla has 8 possible lines out. Plug the ol speakers into a pair of them. Then you need to open the handy Echo console (there is probably a yellow "L" in the bottom right hand of your monitor) and click what numbered line output you plugged the speakers into.

Well, I have sound, but it seems to only play out of my left speaker. Is this an improper connection or setting? My speakers do work. I checked them with my old card. I'm also only getting left side on my headphones. Other than that, I'm just trying to figure out my way around Cool Edit Pro SE (came with the Darla). My biggest problem is the lingo. Words like....well....some words that you guys might use to talk to each other. I'm so glad that you understand the "newbie" status and take time to share your knowledge with the ones who need it.

Fats, make sure all connections are good and tight.
I have a Darla24, one day it wasnt working
right, then I noticed that one of my 1/4 inch jacks
wasnt in tight.

Also, try any source you can, mp3s, wav. files, CDs,
System sounds, to see if you get stereo.David

Ok lets toss all the gear on the table. Sorry about the hasty speakers=output device. What sort of speakers are you plugging into what? Are they after all powered? Or do you have a power amp?

Fatz, I had the same problem with pc speakers.

I had a pair of yamaha speakers with a subwoofer,
and they had an extra set of inputs. When I hooked
em up, only one speaker worked. I tried everything,
drove me nuts.
The problem was a faulty connection with the yamahas.
I wiggled stuff around, and it finally worked, but
never really well. They were brand new, too, so
now they are in my box of "Stuff I dont use and
should not have bought". I already owned an Alesis
Amp and a pair of Tannoys, I was just trying to save space
on my Desk, which is now crowded up with an Alesis
Amp and a pair of Tannoys!

Hope that works, so you can move on and start askin
some "doozies"

Thanks alot!!!

What now....
I just went and picked up an old, I mean old, Yamaha model EM-80 four track mixer, just to have to try some things out. Hell it was FREE......I plugged a 1/4" cable from the output 1 on the Darla and went to the track 1 on the mixer. I then plugged in my headphones to the mixer and played a wav file on Cool Edit SE only to hear nothing. I am getting a signal it seems to the Echo Console....I see the meter moving on Channel One....but hear nothing. I am suspicious of my 1/4" cable, but it's all I have here right now.
