I am looking for a microphone to be the "workhorse" in my home studio. I would like a condensor (multi-patterned) that could kill vocals and acoustic guitar. I would also like to use this mic as a room-mic. I record everything myself (except drums), so I want the mic to be versatile. (I already have 2 57's, 421, pair Rode NT5, AT3035).
I have seen people recommend the AT4040/50, but I have been using a 3035 and think it is WAy too bright (and I just dont like it). Im looking for a bit darker/richer microphone. Im going for an Elliott Smith/Neil Young kinda sound (cliche- I know).
I would like to spend less than $700. Right now the Shure KSM44 is the number one on my list...so I was hoping this post would give me some new mics or support the KSM.

I think you might need a tube mic.
