I dont know if anybody here is a Joy Division fan, but im curious to know if anybodys knows the signal chain used for songs like "love will tear us apart" on vocals. that was produced by martin hannett, but i cant find much information on the gear he used. Does anybody know what mic was used? what preamp? I sometimes have a dark and moody voice like Ian Curtis, and however he recorded his voice, sure sounds damn good to me.

I don't know any specific mics or preamps, but I do know that Ian Curtis' trademark baritone was actually the result of his voice being slowed down in the studio and run through a harmonizer live. If you listen to the Warsaw demos or any of their early live performances, you'll find that his voice was actually a lot higher than it appeared on their albums.
