anyone out there playing a danelectro guitar ?? they have some cool looking and sounding guitars and im in the market for a new guitar. i have been looking at the godin lg but its been takin from my local store twice before i got there to buy it so i m thinkin i got to keep looking around. i was looking at these danaelectro as they list really low and sound cool anyone know about them??? good buy?? great?? whats the word??

I don't care for the Dano guitars. My understanding is that they are made from partical wood. Which means that somebody swept up all the sawdust, mixed it with some glue and made a guitar out of it. IMHO Dano guitars have always been junk, even when Jimmy Page was playing one and they still are.

Well, they are pretty cheap so you can't expect miracles out of them. I won't call them junk like firebird does, they justhave a specific thin tone that you have to like. So try one before you buy it, 'cause it isn't that versatile, and if that tone doesn't suite you, it's wasted money...

I have 3 Danelectros, and I like them.

I think they're pretty nice guitars for the money. They look and play fine, and are comparable to other guitars in their price class. They come in some pretty funky colors, but some of their color schemes are pleasant. They have a large variety of models, and many have a 'retro' look and design, especially the 'lipstick' pickups.;)

In all fairness, I have a 12 string Dan and while I wouldn't want it to be the only guitar I had, it ain't bad at all. I just wanted an electric 12 string for recording and while it ain't no Rickenbacker, it was about 8 timed cheaper than one.

They also make really nice Pedals.... I have a "Cool Cat" Chorus pedal...

Some of their pedels rock! I've got the Dan Echo and a Daddy-O, but those little ones with names like "tuna fish whatever" suck.

I can't comment on the Guitars, but I do have a Longhorn Bass that I love. It has a great punchy tone and plays like a dream. I also have a CoolCat Chorus pedal, and it rocks.

BTW,...

While some of Danelectro's body styles may be composite, they are not all composite-type bodies. Two of my three Danelectros definitely have a single piece hardwood body,... but don't ask me to quote which type of hardwood.;)

"Innuendo-12"
"DC-12"

Nearly all dano's are very good for the money (used).

The u2 u3 and dc's are all very nice. There are three sets really. Vintage, the re-release vintage and the brand new ones like the innuendo.

The two new guitars and one bass suck hardcore shit. Absoutly horrible. The built in effects are worse than the little pedals.

I have a 56-u2 and a dc bass and they are very good guitars.

I have the Dano 12-string. It is, in fact, ideal for the home recordist on a budget, looking for another sound in the palette. It's cheap, plays easily, stays in tune and gives you that jangle for a fraction of the price of a Ric, as noted above.

I forgot to mention that,... they stay in tune!

The onboard effects you get on the Innuendo are a little gimmicky and cheesy, but it doesn't detract from the solid sound & playability of the guitar. Also, whether you use the built in effects or not, it does offer dual outputs, so you can do A/B signal feeds directly off the guitar. I think this is a great feature.
