These danelectro reissue guitars- with the lipstick pickups and so on- are they worth it? only in my local friendly guitar shop they have em for a great price, and im seriously needing a second electric...

I picked up the 12 string model about 3 months ago and I feel it was worth what I paid for it ($350). Granted it's a 12 string so it doesn't have the slick action my Tele has but the tone is oh so nice!

$350 hey? thats pretty good... my main worry is if i bought one would i have to fiddle around with internation etc- and are the machine heads good? i HATE keep having to retune guitars between songs!

This a good guitar for the price, but remember, you get what you pay for. I've owned one and you will have to set the bridge and tune the guitar offten if you use heavy strings. But the originals from the 50's and 60's are the same way. I think you will be satisfied with the guitar as long as you keep in ming that it isn't a $3000 Gibson or Fender. They sound great, have good action and a nice feeling neck. These are all great things for a guitar that cost $300 or less. Buy it, play it, and have fun. If you don't like it I sure you can sell the guitar right away for close to retail
because of their popularity.....

Excellent- cheers for that, I may well go out and buy it. And at £99 UK money, I think you'll agree thats a good deal (the 56-U2 model).

If you are looking to sell or insure a dano 56-u2 the serial # is hidden on a piece of paper that looks like its from a fortune cookie in the rear cavity! Other wise cool guitar

I'm a Fender guy...I only really dig Fenders, but I must say I like the Danelectros a lot...if I were to ever betray Fender, it'd be with a Danelectro :) They sound awesome, they just seem a little cheaply made...the body is made of some wacky material.

Oh YEah!!!

Hey you should get one I say!
I love that guitar my friends little sis has one we nik it when ever she aint around cause it sounds so good!.
Take one and run!

the danos are make from the same shite as the sides of old tv's are make of. I forget what it's called at the moment.

danos and teiscos...

from the 60s were the cheapest cool-looking things going back when people said "peace man" with a straight face.Formica (countertop material )was used for the bodies. The lipstick pickups are so-called because the original japanese supplier had a bunch of lipstick tubes available! No shit.Real players avoided them like the plague because their action, intonation and electronics were spectacularly crappy.Original versions today command a premium due to nostalgia and the general craziness of the "antique" collector's market.I am not familiar with the re-issues but would suspect that they are much better in quality control now days.I was still a Jackson/Charvel guitar tech 4 years ago when the modern "vintage re-issue" lipstick pickup became available on the wholesale market. The Charvel Surfcastor and several others used the new lipstick and the sound was light years better than the originals. For a cheapy guitar with decent electronics, wood and playability take a look at the entry level Jacksons or Charvels which are retailing about $200.

right then. I reckon next week mi friendly guitar shop guy is gonna get a visit from myself and 99 of mi best friends...(£)
thanx every1!!

Thanks every1! I went and got it today, and initial thoughts are that I'm glad I did! Because for £99, are you really gonna get better (or arguably for £220, rrp!).

I've had a Dano Longhorn bass for about 6 months. I'm a guitarist, but I needed a bass for recording.

This thing jams. Decent sound on my tapes. Good action. The pickups are a little noisy - but a lot less noise than my Strat (standard). Weighs in at about 3 pounds. It was on sale at GC for $130. Ugliest thing in the store.

I love my Fender Strat - But I'm seriously thinking about picking up a Dano for slide work. They have a semi-hollow that's probably worth looking at... Just wait'n for them GC clearance sales!

If you want a good starter or something that looks different, or as second guitar like Philly ponders - you should at least take one for a test drive.

We all have opinions...

personally, i think danelectro guitars arent for me. any guitar that weights as much as one of them...eh. i like some weight behind my guitars, but not to much. like personally, i sotra like the way the les paul plays, but in jimmy page's words, "Playing this gibson les paul is like playing with a car strapped to your back." so i have moved twards SGs. first i got an epiphone g-400, any put a duncan in the bridge. than i got a Gibson SG Standard. but now, the one i play most is a Gibson SG-Z, the one with the lightning bolt on it, and i love it more than any other guitar...
