The problem with that, though, is that you just won't progess technically if you never do structured practice.
There is no problem with it. technically, I play better now than I did when i was 28.
My tastes have definitely changed. I value harmony and chord structure and melody much more now. and I don't believe that couch picking will give you that. I like to learn new songs, though - just not too often. I read a couple times a year, too. I'll take a community theater musical gig or some other excuse to look at the page again.
I think it is 100% about what kind of musician you want to be. I just don't have the desire to be a "guitar player" anymore. I want to be a musician. And maybe I would be one if I practiced more.
