http://artists2.iuma.com/IUMA/Bands/THE8THFLOOR/

getting down to business.

first off i would like to thank SPIN for his help in ACID. spin for some reason i was a cubase master but acid syncing had me worried (because i had issues with trying to sync version two in a big studio). your tech support (along with others) helped me create "TOSSED DOWN". thats one of only 2 beats i have ever made in acid.

for those who hit the link please leave feedback on my iuma site and leave TECHNICAL ADVICE HERE!!!!!! the highest i have been ranked on iuma is 465. i need to be higher and i feel in time i can do it (i used to be like 9000 or something 2 months ago).

listen to the mix, arrangement, sound quality, sounds and the over all content.

HERESY AKA CZAR

PS THOSE INSTRUMENTALS ARE NOT THE TYPE OF RAP BEATS I RAP OVER. I RAP OVER METAL/RAP!!!!!!!! LONG LIVE ALICE IN CHAINS!!!!!!!!

pretty good overall, but I hear nothing that will make you competitve on the global scene.

Try using 8 bar loops too.

Funk on!

please explain

QUOTE]pretty good overall, but I hear nothing that will make you competitve on the global scene. [/QUOTE] i worked with a promoter (KEITH NAPIER) and helped promote the TQ album (the release before he signed with cash money) master p,e40 and b-legit. when it was all over keith had these gold and silver/gray looking records (only the head promoters received them). during that time working with keith i soaked up A LOT of game about the biz. how regions are broken down, what the "golden aisle" is etc etc etc.

1.PRODUCT
2.TARGET AUDIENCE
3.MARKETING and PROMOTIONS

you can rap or sing about lollypop sticks and bubble gum wrappers. if you have the product and you know how to effectively market and promote your product to the target audience guess what??? $$$$$$$$$$$$$ 10% talent 90% business. i will forever hold that as MUSIC GOSPEL. remember------>master p. did his stuff "stand out"? was it "cutting edge"??? of course not. he is NOT a good rapper/lyricist nor do his beats sound superb......so how did he get all those gold and platinum records???? how did he get over $300 million?????????? 1.2.3

by the way i have "global" labels considering my product so i MUST be doing something right. i must be able to compete if four of those tracks are going to be sold in a matter of days (waiting on paper work) and will be released on nationwide albums(distribution through KOCH and BAYSIDE). if i have DOUG CHANCELLOR (guy who recorded the 4 songs that got papa roach signed) telling me he is perfect for "MY" music (metal/rap) i must be doing something right............

so when you say "nothing that will make you competetive on a global scene" what are you talking about? please elaborate? what stands out to you or what doesnt stand out to you? from what i gather you are saying its "average". 99% of the rappers who make $$$$$$$$ are average look at ----->Big Tymers. the beats they rap over all sound the same and they rap about the same thing over and over. how do they get platinum and gold albums and all that $$$$$$$$$$$??? 1.2.3 (and by taking all the publishing)

in YOUR opinion what does it need to stand out in a GLOBAL market??????? if i find regions that are NOT saturated with music from 74629759744975697 rappers will i find a chance? yes. do regions like that exist here in america? YES!!!!!!!!!!! so elaborate on what is required to stand out globally.

Try using 8 bar loops too.
actually the only instrumental that had four bar loops was "tossed down". everything else was set on 8 on the roland. no i didnt play the same thing for 8 bars. an example would be the instrumental "assylum". go back and listen to the bassline, kick and snare patterns. listen to how they change up. thats just ONE example from ONE song.

here in the bay area of california the succesful producers dont do teh same loop over and over. khyree, bosko, ant banks, mike mosely and ric roc. they dont loop the beat for the same thing over and over.

listen to dr.dre's "STILL" you hear the same "KLING,KLING,KLING,KLING" over and over and over throughout the ENTIRE song. you hear the SAME sounds at the SAME times. i dont do that. thats not my style. i like to do breakdowns and have all the verse different and all the hooks different. i like to basically have the beat change throughout the song. on some songs i may even change the beat entirely or do some crazy tempo change. swizz beats is he tight????? neptunes????? listen to nas "ETHER" or jay z "TAKEOVER" what do you hear??????? same thing over and over and over and over. the song RARELY switchs. i like to have my music switch and not just go on and on and on. thats BORING!!!!!!!!! last night an assoiate labeled me THE BLACK WES CRAVEN. for now on when i do beats for people they are going to get demonic, eerie, visions of hell someone is chasing me type of beats. none of that booty shaking ,party bounce stuff. no "hip hop" turntable scratching battle rap stuff. nothing but hardcore evil.

btw i would appreciate it if you elaborated on your statements. once again i take this as constructive criticism. i am in GLOBAL COMPETETION already. simply because im making music. im in competetion with YOU and EVERYONE else on this board who may take away a potential sale.

i WILL have it so when they see a HERESY album on the golden aisle and they see a big tymer album on the golden aisle they choose HERESY.

heresy didnt pattern himself after anyone, heresy broke the rules and did it his way, heresy is DIFFERENT, heresy is talking about GOSPEL DEATH. what the hell is GOSPEL DEATH? heresy is talking about NOVOUS ORDO SECLORUM and CFR AND TLC. what the hell is that????? HERESY IS TALKING ABOUT GEORGE BUSH DID THOSE 9-11 ATTACKS AND THE BILDERBERGS AND JESUITS HAD A HAND IN IT!!! HERESY IS TALKING ABOUT THE CATHOLIC PRIEST MOLESTING KIDS!!!!! oh my i gotta have it!!!!! next the buyer will look at big tymers. i heard it before. same thing over and over. bling bling. it all sounds the same, same beats over and over.........nothing new to the table............

1.2.3

heresy

ps ;) for leaving the feedback just go a lil more in depth

czar,

I am happy that you take this as constructive critiscm and want me to elaborate. I am exactly the same way about my music cos I will not stop till I reach the top, both in singing/songwriting and in the producing/engineering side of it.

I first want to tell you that before I made my comments, I listened to four of your beats. I am listening to the rest now.

I could not agree with you more that it is 90% marketing and 10% music. BTW, this is why I am a Senior marketing major in college and plan to go on and get an MBA. Simply because its marketing that dictates how big one can get.

If it were not marketing, jokes like Brittany, or N'sync or blink 182 would not be around.

There is one thing to take into consideration though. To get superstar status, you need those songs that will stick in people's minds and not let go. One of these songs and the right marketing will immediately propel you into superstardom

Some songs that immediately come to mind are:

Brittany : hit me one more time
Nickleback: How you remind me
Seal: Kiss from a rose
Hoobastank:crawling in the dark
Creed: With arms wide open

One thing you'll notice about these songs is that they hook you THE FIRST TIME YOU HEAR THEM. Thats a great song. you need to incorporate that into your music.

before I continue, I am sure you want to hear my work, so go here:

I made the beat and did an internet collaboration with a rapper who also happens to be a homerecording.com member

Anyhow,
as far as your beats go, they are OK. I wont remember them like I would remember the beat on Dre's forgot about dre

That does not even matter, what matters is phat flow. if you have ohat flow, you can put any beat on there and the track could go platinum. I have worked with a lot of rappers who all have talent, but its all the same generic stuff. Once in a while, I'll hear a song with flow then I know that cat can stand above the rest.

One thing I have noticed about rap is that the biggest songs have the flow. Im thinking

Jay-z: can I get a
Nelly: e.I
NAs: one mic
Ludacris: coming to america

they have phat flow and phatter hooks and this is what makes them stay at the top. MArkting helps them get to the top and flow helps them stay at the top.

ps.

please tell me what the "the golden aisle" is thanks

good songs will always stand out and when i write i try to write good songs that stand out. i revise and redo, revise rewrite until it stands out. its a combo of good songs AND constant bombarding. if the people you named did not get played 10 or more times a day per station would they be at superstar status???????? NOPE. i dont care HOW good the material was if it isnt getting to the public and they are not bombarded iwth it how will it push units????????

all the songs you just named sucked to me(like my opinion matters when millions purchased those songs). those songs dont move me or get me going. its not like alice in chains "man in the box". its not like "pimp clinic" by above the law. they hooked YOU the first time you heard em. when i heard em i either turned it off or removed myself from the listening environment.

twice this month i had two radio personalities in my home. on both occasions i gave them the remote to the cd player. you know what i told em? if it doesnt hit within 15 seconds turn it off.

on both occasions the songs played to the end. BOTH TIMES and i only let them hear 2 songs each. after they listened i asked them a question. "do you think this will be able to get play in a club or will you play it on the radio". the answer was "YES BUT........"i cut em off. and told them. "this is the album version the radio version will not have the bridges and on one of the songs it will only be two verses long". after that one said to "drop it off at the station after you remix it". the other said "drop it off at the house when you are finished".

they both said the same thing and these are TWO different radio heads. 3 minutes 30 seconds max time. thats what im looking at. btw what i played for them was MY music. my music is DIFFERENT from what you hear on the site. the music is different, the lyric content is different.

like i said i must be hooking someone if people are showing interest. i dont surround myself with "yes men". i must be hooking someone if i receive many emails and calls (and yes i do receieve many)asking "HOW MUCH????????" "WHAT ARE YOUR RATES" "CAN WE GET YOU TO DO US A BEAT?"
if i was getting NEGATIVE feedback from people who are potenial customers(those who buy beats, want my material,or ask me to network) i would rethink it. however thats NOT the case. i find people who actually WANT it. so if they WANT it and are willing to PAY for it why not SELL IT?????????? why not continue to do what i do??????
before I continue, I am sure you want to hear my work, so go here:
same exact sounds and arrangement in all the chorus parts (something i will never do). same panning locations (a lot of times i flip the panning or have it random). same horn hits (sounds like horns that are panned hard on one side) through out the song. they never switch up or play different segments. on the second hook why not take the bass out????? in the middle of the second verse why not take the kicks out or do something to the snares? why not remove them or the hi hats? its the EXACT SAME THING over and over (peep the drum pattern). thats NOT what i do. i like to make a beat that carries. especially if someone is telling a story. if a rapper raps about how he saw someone get murdered in verse one why do i want the same sounds and arrangement in verse two? in verse two he is talking about trying to get away from the crime scene????? why not switch it????? thats what I DO. i dont care about what anyone else does. i dont do the same thing over and over and over.

by the way you place that rapper against ME,my brother RAV or my boy MAIN EVENT and he will be trampled. towards the end he sounds like e40/eminem and he didnt really stand out to me. he is talking about how "fucked up" the world is yet the beat is not a CHAOTIC beat. i make music so they know DOOM ia at hand and the antichrist or jason is at your door.

Anyhow, as far as your beats go, they are OK. I wont remember them like I would remember the beat on Dre's forgot about dre
LMAO!!!!!!!!!! of course you wont. for one DRE is a household name. his NAME alone rings a bell. im not like that YET. DRE is in heavy rotation and you are constantly hearing him 10-20 times a day. im not like that YET. so yes its a difference however if i have the same chances as dre (doors are opening due to blessings and hard work) i bet you do. a year from now i want you to remember this post.

One thing I have noticed about rap is that the biggest songs have the flow. Im thinking Jay-z: can I get a
Nelly: e.I
NAs: one mic
Ludacris: coming to america
those are people who are constantly getting play which leads me to believe that you listen to a lot of radio/commercial stuff.

when i hear those cats i think of crap

nelly uses NURSERY RHYMES (that down down baby stuff is a nursery rhyme thats a phat hook to you?). or when he says that speedy gonzales stuff you consider that tight?

what about jay z "s dot carter you must try harder"??????? you consider that phat flows and phat hooks??????? LMAO!!!!!! thats what i think about when i hear the name jay z or nelly.

when i think of nas ("name a rapper that i aint influenced") is that reality or is that tight to you???????

does kool keith talk about anything???????? hell no. is his hook tight? no. yet he pushes units.

in 1-2 years time the people and the album sales will decide. with my "trump cards" and "aces in the hole" i cant loose. because im already starting to make impact now. the bay area is SATURATED with rappers and producers yet i have people asking me for beats. people who pay. isnt that what the music BUSINESS is about????????????

czar

ps you are a senior in marketing. go to tower or warehouse and tell me what cds you see first. tell em are they at eye level and are they really close to the door or counter? are they in reach? are they the cd's you see before you hit the rest of teh rap section (im not just talking new releases). you already know the answer to your question.

What is the golden aisle?

some good points Czar.

Thanks for the review of my(soft) beat. One thing I prophesy is that the person who comes into rap and does not play tha same 4 or 8 bar loop over and over will revolutionalize and revitalize the industry. Maybe you can be the one to do that.

Anyhow, the rapper on that beat asked to be on it. I reserve my comments about his style.

Ok , to move on to what you say , in random order. I agree about the positioning of the CDs. How about small labels?. You are talking positioning and place which are both important marketing concepts.

To tell you the truth, I dont buy Cds. All the songs I've heard are radio stuff. I did not like them because I got bombarded though. As I said, I liked them the first time I heard them. If I were a cd buyer, I would have purchased them after hearing them the first time on radio.

Its all about the melody and the hook man. I was 3/4 asleep when I heard BENT by matchbox twenty but the song woke me up and I knew it would be a hit and guess what, it was. Its all about mass appeal really. You can spit nursery rhymes, but if you spit it with a hook that people can remember, they will buy the CD.

I have no doubt that people are interested in your work. When you get famous in one or two years, dont forget your homerecording.com homies. I can be your mix engineer . Just kidding.

Comparing your beat to Dre's beat(and this is very important) there has to be an instrument that has a memorable lick. At a basteball game in my school all the bass player had to do was play the bass lick from forgot about dre and everybody was jumping with excitement.

Man, you and I agreee. Its about 1.2.3

1.2.3

peace

Czar, i haven't heard your shit yet, will peep the link in a sec, but I can agree with you to a point on the 10% talent shit, now having said that...

sure someone with no REAL talent or skill such as a Master P can and usually will blow up with the right promotion, production, image, etc. All of these are key to being a huge commercial success. Still I can say that in all honesty all the artist (if you can call them artists) that fall in this category will not last. If you plan on this being your key to the game, save the dollers you make because even Master P fell off. People who lack a true artistic vision and some sort of talent fall off because people quickly bore of the current gimmick and move to the next. Only the talent lasts, though business talent can open up the doors to other areas in the music business ie. Fred Durst, long after Limp Bizkit has dissapeared, Durst will still be running the scenes at Interscope or another label.

Though if you have STUNNING good looks, a crew of GREAT ghost writers, the BEST producers, a STELLAR promotion team, and the best staff MONEY can buy, you can last a long time without TALENT. Just ask Britney and her boyfriend Justin.

HMMMMMMMM............

Czar you got some phat beats. I was feeling assylum and........ forgot the other one. Oh yeah tossed down. That shit was phat. The bass hit fukken hard. All your beats did. What do you use for bass? And yeah I agree with you on Nelly and Jay-z. I thought I was the only one that noticed his hook was from an old nusery rhyme little kids clap to. As for cyan talking about the hooks.......hooks are koo for radio play, but when it comes down to me making a track not for radio play, you could forget a sing-along hook. I know it gets play but that will never be my steelo unless I was gonna make a million dollars. For reaal! Also i agree Dre is overatted like a mutha', 2 or 3 years ago he was washed up now he's at the top. Actually, I heard many producers better than Dre. But that's it for me PEACE!

you mentioned switching up the beat.

I would use the two that Antialias liked. Assylom and TOssed down.

In the case of assylum, there was one two bar loop that ran almost the entirety of the track, and in the case of tossed down there was also at least one instrument that looped almost the length of the track

for one its IMPOSSIBLE for you to know that a two bar loop runs across the entire track on assylom. WHY???? I HAVENT POSTED THE ENTIRE TRACK!!!!!!!!!!! all i have posted is a SNIPPET!!!!!!!!!! the beat will fade in from ***PART***of the intro and will fade out AFTER the chorus and second verse start. have you heard verse 2 and chorus 2 yet? what about verse 3 or chorus 3? if i havent posted the entire song how would you know??????? LMAO!!!!!!!!

if you are talking about the string segment that is panned on the left side what does it do? it loops over and over with the octave starting low and going high the next time it plays. when the intro plays it plays. when the verse one starts guess what happens??? it gets TAKEN OUT. it comes back in MIDDLE of verse 1 and repeats what it did in when it was in the intro. guess what it does when its played in the chorus???? IT RISES 2 MORE OCTAVES HIGHER! LMAO!!!!!!!! the strings that are panned on the right are taken OUT in the middle of verse one. so what sound are you talking about???? if you are mistaking and are refering to that little bell hit that rides throughout the snippet guess what?????? it is taken out as soon as the 3rd chorus is finished. you would know that because you listened to the entire track huh??????

as for tossed down can you name the sound you are talking about? the only sound that plays for the entire song is the bassline. everything else gets taken out at some point in the song. the piano plays throughout the song but gets taken out at all the chorus segments. when the 3rd chorus ends a 4th one starts again and this time the pianos come in on the fourth chorus.of course you would know that because you heard the entire track huh??????? LMAO!!!!

that sound thats panned opposite to the falling strings is taken OUT by the time the chorus plays. that lil buzzing sound that fades in (panned on the same side of the falling strings)is taken out when the strings first come on. LOL!!!!!! what sound are you talking about???????? what about that soft lead that comes on in verse 2???? thats only on verse two and the outro of the song. of course you would know that because you heard the entire song huh?????? LMAO!!!!!!

so please elaborate on how you came to the assessment that certain sounds were riding throughout the track. when you say entire track do you mean the entire "snippet" that i posted? if it rode through out the entire snippet i ***GURANTEE*** that it was removed for a LONG time somewhere else in the song. please tell me where these sounds are located. it seems that your analysis is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay off my friend.

stick to YOUR formula pimp and let ME stick to what I am doing. now its FAIR to say that you are not listenting to the tracks. if you did you would NOT have said what you did (and that would mean i would not have to take a long time posting what the songs really do). go back and listen now that you have been educated on how the songs are laced.

as of yesterday i was ranked number 57 on the entire iuma site.

*****if you want me to print my stats page and post it for you to see i can do that.*****

the site that you have your music posted at has you ranked at what number?

i had 54 page views, 90 real player streams and 34 mp3 downloads. if i can compete on the net i can compete off the net. how many page hits did you have yesterday??????

anti alias im glad you are feeling the tracks and you know what i like assylom the best. i made the beat for these cats:

these are children of PLATINUM and GOLD artists. if they are coming to ME for tracks i MUST be doing something right.

as for bass i use a lil bit of everything. some songs i use live bass (i didnt post those) but most of the time its from the xp-60 or proteus sound module (most of the time its the 60). NONE OF THE TRACKS HAVE ANY PROCESSING. no eq,no compression or ANYTHING like that. they are FIRST STAGE MIXES. they are on TWO CHANNELS ONLY. straight from the keyboard out to the hard disc recorder on two channels. if i can get it to sound good like that imagine what happens when i DO multitrack it (which i do after i get it in the ballpark)!

as for nelly and that hook i want you to peep something. who sang that nursery rhyme as a little kid? girls. they sang it over and over and over. guess what happened? those girls grew up. when they heard nelly using it guess what happened??? it brought back memories. why????? they were used to singing it over and over and over as a kid. hell nelly probably sang it as a kid. he is singing it NOW so i wouldnt doubt it. do you see how constant bombardment or propaganda can turn into a potential sale?

that cat used speedy gonzales LMAO!!!!!! guess what? it made $$$$$$$$. everyone remembers speedy. everyone has saw speedy on tv.

west coast cats (especially the bay area) have been using various forms of slang for years. FA SHEEZY OR OF THE HEEZEY OR HIZZO. guess what happens????? cats like jay z rape it and make $$$$$$$$$$ off of it. why?????? effective marketing of the slang. he used something that was already used and had already saturated the people (jackson 5 song) and made his version with up to date slang that the majority of people are NOT used to hearing. same with his hard knock life song. same with his first song that he did with foxy brown.

in fact if you peep ALOT of artist from snoop to dre to jay z to nas to biggie to tupac to nelly you will notice that they all have something in common. wanna know what it is???? THEY will each have 2-4 remakes of another persons work on the album.

listen to the last snoop album. in fact listen to the chronic. i can go back and name EVERY sample used on that album.

if its not a sample they are doing its a replay but its STILL someone elses work.

now go back and listen to your albums now and see how many of the rappers did remakes. you will see A LOT of remakes.

@cyan why did everyone start jumping when they heard the dre song? was it because it was that good or because they had constantly heard it over and over and over and over and over and over??????????? THEY COULD IDENTIFY WITH IT!!!!!!!! they knew it was dre because dre is a household name. his name sells.

honestly i dont remember the beat. the reason i remember "still" is because jay z wrote the lyrics and that kling kling chord was playing in the entire song.

the chronic stuff i remember because i listen to A LOT of clinton.

now i bet if your friend had played the MAN IN THE BOX bassline or if he had played HIS OWN bassline he would not have received the same results. i have a RIGHT to compare myself to DRE,YOU or ANY other producer/composer in this game. dre is a man just like i am. if i compare myself to "the best"(the general publics opinion) who are you to say otherwise? i can give you the name of 2 products that can be found in stores nationwide that either I or my brother RAV (The second rapper on every song that has lyrics) have been on. ONE of the records was on a MAJOR label (mercury). i can give you the names of 5 labels who i am currently making beats for who have NATION WIDE RELEASES (and these are indie labels). i must be doing something right if i did a cut with groundbasics and they are performing with "THE LIVING LEGENDS". i must be doing something if the groundbasics album is geeting good feedback and underground heads have shown a lot of interest.

what releases have you been on? just curious. can i find your works online or offline?

i am a student of propaganda and mind control. people are CONDITIONED to BUY. the need is CREATED. no REAL need exists in the music world. you dont NEED it. you WANT it. the false need is simply CREATED.

"you need to buy this cd everyone else has it!"

you hear a song everyday on the radio guess what? it grows on you. what happens when you are not hearing it on the radio? the NEED kicks in. you NEED to listen to it at home or when it isnt on the radio. you NEED to listen to it because you were constantly bombarded and you cant do without it.

i can name A LOT of people that will DESTROY dre. the thing is they are not on the MASS LEVEL and have not been marketed and promoted like that. give me the same budget as dre. give me the same equipment as dre. give me the same marketing team and let me add my input also. until that happens i have 2 make do with what i have and hit my target audience. in time the hard work will pay off. REAL cats feel it. thats why my name is taking off in the bay area (which is a heavily saturated place for rap).

now excuse me i have work to do

HERESY

PS I GURANTEE WHEN I POST "LIL LAMB" "WHORE OF BABYLON" "GOLGOTHA" OR "DESTROYER OF WORLDS" THE CRITICS REMAIN SILENT AND GO BACK TO THE LAB TO CHANGE UP WHAT THEY HAVE. WHEN I POST MY MUSIC (THE MUSIC I RAP TO.) PEOPLE WILL COPY AND BITE. I GURANTEE THAT THEY WILL. I HAVE FOUND SOMETHING THAT NO ONE IS DOING!!!!!! IF ONLY I COULD GET A TRADEMARK ON THIS!!!!!!!! WHAT I HAVE FOUND WILL CHANGE RAP. TRUST ME EVERYONE IS GOING TO START DOING IT.JUST REMEMBER I STARTED IT FIRST.

I really like the first three songs, but that piano sound on "SASQUATCH" has to go. Sounds cheap and way too canned sample synth. A Rhodes type electric piano sound might fit better here. The piano on "big pimpN" is better, but I think it could use some delay effect to give it more ambience.

After that, you completely loose me with the Windham Hill instrumental tracks.

i had no control over any of those beats. NOW i do because i have the adats and i can route the sound to a delay fx or reverb and pan the delay or eq the verb.

however i need to note something.

i composed EVERYTHING with * *
i didnt compose the songs with lyrics (however i do own the publishing).

the songs with lyrics were not made HERE. they were made at EARTHQUAKE STUDIOS(mac dre, psd, dubee and others record at that spot).

i completely lost you? what music genre do you do??????? just curious.
