oh dear thats what i got...

though ive read on the aardvark website that the direct pro has always worked well with cyrix but on the omni studio site they say that some cyrix Pc's have problems.

I know no one anwered him previously but whats the lowdown ? i get the just that there not the best chips but will it be o.k

The 6X86MX, if I remember correctly was the chip that Cyrix released to compete with the Intel P166MMX to the P233MMX processors.

Socket 7. Older processors for sure. Cyrix are not good at FPU, generally a poor performer. If your not after more than 2 - 8 tracks and not using any real time effects you should be ok.

I was a one time running an AMD K6 166 and was able to get 8 tracks, applying effects afterwords. So with the Cyrix, I really don't know... but I wouldn't hope for much! You could pick up a Pentium 233MMX for $20 and that would be a step up from the Cyrix.

Correct me if I'm wrong here. If it isn't a socket 7 board, maybe (but I doubt it) you have some other upgrade path.

If the rest of your system is ok, hard drive etc, you could buy motherboard, RAM and a celeron 800 or something for cheap.

Oh eddie eddie eddie eddie eddie...tsk tsk tsk. Sigh, I'm very disappointed.

The Cyrix processors, as Emeric said, are very poor at FPU - Floating Point math. Which is heavily used when recording and playing back audio.

Anything more than stereo recording at 44.1 is going to be questionable on that system.

Sorry, but you should seriously consider investing in a newer PC.:(

im definetly going to now as ive settled on the omni studio..

cheers peeps
