The high end Zildjian stuff for crashes (not the ZBT). I like Sabian hi-hat's and some of their ride's. Paiste makes an excellent ride but kinda pricey ($400).

Zildjian A custom!!!!!!! These Cymbals sound awesome and are great for recording, cause they stay way out of the range of other drums and percussive instruments, and are very expressive....try the 12" A custom splash...its my fav

Paiste Signatures are cool too, cause they've got a Zepplinish sound.

Go to the music store, ask for a drum stick, and start tapping and crashing all the cymbals you can.
Only YOU know what sounds good and has the exact pitch and feel you want.
From my experience, no "one brand" has ALL the best cymbals. Mix and match until you get the ones you really like. I have a mix of Sabian and Zildjan. Paiste are fine cymabals, too.
Stay away from the "no-name" cheapo cymbals. They lack in quality and tend to crack long before the name brands do.
Only YOU know what sounds good and has the exact pitch and feel you want.

I'm a Sabian man myself, but I agree it is your own ear. go try them yourself. Zildjian and Paiste make excellent cymbals too.

Our drummer bought himself a Paiste crash. Sounded great, until it cracked less than a month and a half later. Unfortunately, Paiste wouldn't honor their warranty on it, claiming he had damaged it by hitting it too hard. Granted, he doesn't have a light touch, but the cymbal had a one year warranty. If you're gonna make a product which is supposed to get hit, at least honor your warranty! He spoke with all sorts of management types who passed him around through the company, but got no help anywhere else. The moral.. beware of Paiste's warranty policy. Anybody else have problems with this sort of thing?

Really? Ive never heard of a Paiste cymbal breaking like that before. I've heard nothin but good about them. They probably should have replaced it though.

I've never bought cymbals because I only use what my drummer friends aren't using. Right now I've got a bunch of Zildjians and I like em. I like the Sabian hats better though. They have scalloped edges for less contact and sound brighter and cleaner than the 12" zildjian remix hats I'm using now,though these record well. Just a tought.-lzb

Sabian cymbals do it for me for a lot of reasons. Their sound, the way they push the creative edge, and especially their service. I have personally cracked one of their cymbals and it was replaced without harrassment or question. I special ordered a china and it was in in two weeks. As for Paiste, I have a fiend who played them and they cracked alll the time. He stopped using them because Paiste wouldn't honor their warranty. Zildjian...GREAT CYMBALS. Played them for years but their lines are limited. Also, try returning a cracked crash to them. I can tell you from experience that they will call you on the phone and interrogate you fiercely. I have also found their turn-around on special orders to be somewhat sluggish. The MOST important thing (I know it's been said, but I have to agree) is to go check 'em out. Try everything out and see what has the sound you're looking for. One thing I try to keep in mind when I buy cymbals is "How will this sound with the rest of my kit?" Whatever you buy, make sure they all sound like they belong together. (That's my one-big-happy-family approach to cymbals. ) GOOD LUCK...

In reply to the Hi Hat post...I use a set of B8Pro 14 Mediums for the studio on my opposing side. They sound terrific on tape but live they are nasty. (For my main hat I like the HH Duo Hats.) I like the AA and the HH series for Hats overall. I find that the AAX are a little aggresive for me. If you're playing metal or soemthing that needs to be balls-out on the hat you might consider them. Zildjian makes the A customs that are very sweet, also. I'm a Sabian man tho.

They know use the B20 alloy which isthe best alloy for cymblas.
Examples of B20 alloy cymbals include: Anatolian, Bosphorus, Istanbul, Masterwork, Meinl Byzance and Marathon B18, Paiste Signature and Traditionals, Paiste 602 and some Exotic Percussion, Paiste Sound Creation and Formula 602, Sabian HH and HHX, Sabian AA and AAX, most Sabian Signature, Spizzichino, Stagg, Ufip, Wuhan, Zildjian A and A Custom, Zildjian K and K Custom, Zildjian Z Custom.
As you can see stagg use one of the best alloys but they sell it for cheaper on the market.
The reason there so cheap is that there made in china and hand hammered over there too.
