stagg

well its still true and stagg got new cymbals since about 8 months got to try em

Most excellent timing tho.

I'm lookin for some new hats and a crash now. :D

?

what your idea of money you are about to spend on it??
for your hats and crashes?

Sabian are by far my choice for cymbals. I used to play Zildjian but they are too unpredictable now, with spotty quality control. The Sabian AA series are fantastic shimmeringly bright cymbals. The Metal-X ride is among the best in the industry. Remember that Zildjian and Sabian are essentially the same recipe, owing to the fact that two brothers got into a fight and one left and started Sabian.

Paiste are also great cymbals but ridiculously overpriced, and they are no better than the top lines from Sabian and Zildjian. They tend to incorporate more copper into the mix that the latters, but generally give a greater bell-like ring with the right cymbal.

High-end Paiste's are competitively priced, and top end Paiste's typically sound better than the other shit. ;)

I'm in the neighborhood of about $500 for HH, 1 crash and 1 ride. I don't know how doable that is but.....

And my style really varies. Just depends if I'm doing my bro's stuff (country) or my stuff (rock/blues/metal)

Looks like I have a road trip to make to test some of these out.

Peace...........Kel

Our drummer bought himself a Paiste crash. Sounded great, until it cracked less than a month and a half later. Unfortunately, Paiste wouldn't honor their warranty on it, claiming he had damaged it by hitting it too hard.

I'm on Paiste's side. You need to pay attention to what you're buying & what you're going to use it for. Paiste makes very delicate, sacchariny sweet sounding cymbals, which cater to jazz musicians & people who don't use 2x4's to hit their drums. They also make screamingly brilliant sounding cymbals that can take so much abuse, I've wondered if I could roll a tank over them.

If $500 is all you're going to put into it, check Ebay. As constant as Hi-Hat's are, you can't buy crap. Great sounding, long lasting hats are going to run you $350 alone.

For your price range, I'd go A Custom's (from ebay), like someone else suggested. They sound super brilliant Like Paiste Signature's, yet are Zildjian durable.

If money we're no object, I'd suggest Paiste Signature's, a lighter drum stick and complete respect when striking them. They're the best.

Used pair of Zildjian or Sabian A/AA Hi Hats, $150 on the bay.

Crash cymbal 16" or 18" A customs, or Sabian AA brilliant, $100 to $150 on the bay...

It's possible to get a decent ride cymbal for about the same, too.

Also, check craigslist if you're in the USA, as there are people that don't want the hassle of shipping, dealing with ebay and or paypal, and will usually be selling at a little less of a price than ebay...

And whatever you do, stay away from Paiste. Those things will give you a social disease!

I'm partial to the handmade Turkish cymbals. Surprisingly well-priced, and they have a complexity that no mass-produced cymbal can really touch. That being said, I have cymbals from Sabian and Zildjian, in addition to Bosphorus and Istanbul.

Check out the Cymbals Only website.

Istanbul for me here. I used to be an avid A Zildjian fan, then I heard the Istanbul Alchemy cymbals in person...I've since converted my entire setup over and have never been happier. Although, I do still use a Zil-bel. Hard to find a substitute for that one.

Im pretty rough on my cymbals, and low on cash, so i go for whatever is cheapest, and usually on the thicker side. If I had the money tho, id say A customs, or HH/AAX.

Check this performance out.........

Louis Bellson, Dennis Chambers and Greg Bissonette (talent?) [;aying together at the Buddy Rich tribute. The most effective and beautiful integration of China crashes and little splash cymbals and you know what? They all played together without stepping on each other. You get a chance to hear a lot of good cymbals.

I recently got two of the Armand line: a 19" Beautiful Baby, and a 21" Armand Ride... Nice and versatile.

I think that this series are probably the best of the lot as far as the current crop of Zildjians.

Ok.... I like my med/thin crashes and my medium to thin hats..... but is it just me or do really thick heavy rides sound fantastic recorded?

My ears tend to like Zildjian, Bosphorus, and Istanbul stuff the best.
