Hi,

I've been recording audio for a few months now, and am starting to try my hand at MIDI. I understand the basics of MIDI (I think), but am having some trouble when I try to use the Yamaha xg-50 soft synth.

My setup is: Athlon T-Bird 1.4 ghz, 250 meg Ram, 2 Maxtor HDs (both 7200 and plenty of room), Aardvark Q10 for audio, and a SB Pro compatible sound chip built into my Asus A7M266 MoBo.

I recorded some audio tracks and programmed some MIDI drums. When I play back MIDI through the onboard sound chip, everything plays fine, but the sound quality of the drums is just so-so (I can hear a hiss). I found that I can output my MIDI to the xg-50 soft synth and have it play directly out of my Q10 with significantly improved sound, but when I do, none of the audio tracks play. I don't know if this is just a basic limitation of my system, or if I can change some setting to let both audio and soft syth tracks play simultaneously through the Q10. Thanks for any help.

Dave
