Today I was installing a Seymour Duncan SH-8 Invader pickup in my Affinity Strat and after getting it all soldered and wired up, I noticed it the humbucker didn't fit great and I am going to have to cut some of the wood between the places where the pickups go. There is a little piece of the body that sticks out to separate the pickups I guess, and I'm going to have to cut that out. How should I go about doing this?

I was thinking of using a drill press and slowly drilling tons of holes over the place that needs to be taken out, then scraping out the excess that the drill bit did not get. Is this a good way to go about it?

Thanks,
Scott

id think a router...most likely a plunger router...but you could use the press, it would get nice even sized holes....the plunger router would do the same....but im not sure if you should do that yourself....you screw up and youll be SOL

Take it into a cabinet shop and see if they will rout it out for ya...

A drill press doesn't sound like a good idea....

It's not really that much wood you need to remove, right? They way I look at it, it's not an expensive guitar so just be real careful and I'm sure you'll do fine with a drill press. (although a router would work better)

I think I'll see if my dad can do it, he does a lot of woodworking and I'm sure he has the right router bits.

Thanks.

Wood chisel. Watch out using a router without a template or guide, they can really get away from you...

If you only have to take off a small amount of wood a dremmel or similar tool is likely to be the perfect tool for the job. Just be sure to blow all the dust out, no matter how you cut it.
