What the hell is the name of that song by Papa Roach that starts that way...and is it me or did they rip the main riff off of Iron Maiden's "Hallowed Be Thy Name" ??

"Last resort"

That riff has been said to be stolen many times, nobody knows if it was or if it was coincidence...

I heared them do a dreadful cover of the Pixies' "Gouge Away".

I hate when bands make bad covers of songs I like. I remember a live version from "Breack On Through" by Bush. It sounded like the manual of 'how to rape great songs from rock history'.

Man I just HATE Rock-Rap anyway so I think that song sux. Plus, anytime an american sings with a fake British accent that sux even more....I just had that song rammed down my throat on the radio and I was like..."I remember playing that riff back in 1982 covering Maiden's "Hallowed Be Thy Name"

The only band that did really creative stuff with Rock/rap combination was Rage Against The Machine. 99% of the metal/rap bands lack musical passion, some good guitar playing and decent songwriting. On those moments, rock can come so close to being a fully commercial product like a assembled boysband.

(hed)p.e. is the best rap-metal, rapcore, whatever band.

Here's my Papa Roach story:

I was in a small time band in Sacramento in the mid-90s that used to gig around a bit.

So, this promoter we were friendly with suggests that we check out this band Papa Roach, and maybe do some shows together.

We hung out in the balcony of the theater and checked 'em out. I guess they were having a bad show that night. We got a long running gag out of it though. At band practice, someone would bust out a "heavy riff" and we would all repeat "Rap in the verse, and scream in the chorus! Waaaaaahhhhhh!!!"

Now they are multi-millionaires and I am a bitter internet dork. So who's laughing now I guess eh?

Dude, dont sweat it...millionaires today, forgotten tomorrow.
In the music scene right now I dont see anyone that has the staying power that guarantees that we will still be listening to them 10-20 years from now!!! But what do I know, If I would have known back in the 80's that people would still have something to say about Poison I would have put a gun to my head a long time ago.

Life is more than 5 minutes of fame, always remember that!

Yo Brett,

It's ironic you talk about RATM favorably two posts down from that post, since RATM did an absolutely SHITTY cover of Afrika Bambaataa's "Renegades of Funk". SHITTY! They took all the funk out of it! They f'ed it up royal.

I like RATM, otherwise. I'd like to hear someone do "Renegades of Funk" some justice -- plus KEEP da funk! ;)

I know what you mean, I am not really a great fan of their last cover CD Renegades. I like it nevertheless, but it is definetely not the best one they have.

I can understand you hate the cover, but the least you can say is that RATM tried something different with the song, instead of just trying to reproduce the original song, like the Papa Roach example.

greets

Brett

Didn't I already noted the Iron Maiden-rip off riff several months ago here?
Anyway, not only is the riff present in "Hallowed Be Thy Name", also listen to 'similar' versions in "Ghengis Khan" and "Infinite Dreams"...
I could not care less about current bands like Papa Roach, POD, Puddle of Mudd, Linkin Park...
If you thought 80's metal sucked, try listening to some Nu Metal-whino's for more than 5 minutes!

At least 80's metal DIDN'T take itself seriously...

Yeah; they made a song called "Renegades of Funk" un-funky! ;) The only thing that was the same was the lyric, which was kinda weak in the original anyway. "Say Jam Sucker, Say move Sucker, Say groove sucker..." but the original was damn cool... 1983... (yeah, I was a breakdancer, and that was excellent break tunz... so I'm biased :D)

"greetings" :)
