so I dislike how each mic has a case and would like to keep all of them in one, with their respective foam inserts. does anyone know any places that can make one for a reasonable price?

I can't speak to a custom make job, but I've used large-ish pistol cases in the past. They have front and back eggcrate foam sheets and diced foam in the middle. Depending on the size of the mikes and accessories, you can get 2-6 mikes in each case and have them well protected.

On ebay they have some cases you can buy with foam inside that you take out so it custom fits your mic. I have around 10 mics in mine and they fit fairly snug. Also really helpful if you need to travel somewhere with them.

yeah I was thinking about that too, I just thought they wouldn't really be snug against simply egg crate foam and would tumble around. so something like this would probably work?

i got a pelican case that serves as my mic cabinet. so far they fit in there (though that's probably gonna change once the group buy comes in).
it's totally waterproof, has pull 'n pluck foam and even has a pressure valve.
it's maybe a little over kill, but at ~$60 or so to protect 3-4 g's worth of mics, i figure it's worth it. peace of mind and all that.

I went to Home Depot and bought a Husky aluminum toolbox (looks exactly like the cases most mics ship in) and then went across the street to Jo-Ann Fabrics and bought some foam, made some nice cutouts, and now I have a case that holds both my SDC pairs, my Beta 56s, my SM7, and my MD421. Total cost: approx. $35.

The home improvement "superstores" (Home Depot, Lowes, Menard's, etc.) also sell a small aluminum case that has foam in it already. Got mine for $20 a few years ago.

I also 2nd...or is it 3rd the home improvement store route. I was just in Home Depot and I saw an awesome aluminum case for next to nothing that would fit the bill.

SKB and Gator have some nice mic cases. I've been using the 6 mic version, the SKB-600, and just this week purchased the 12-mic one, the SKB-1200. I can't seem to find a picture of an SKB-600 open, but it is similar to the 1200. (I can't post that picture until I hit five posts, but you can find it easily.) If you shop around you can usually find one at a decent price (I paid $89.98 for my 600).
The SKB cases are very rugged, and everything from my side-address condensers to my omni reference mic fit securely. There is room beside the mics for clips and other accessories, and there is a compartment inside the lid that works well for mic cables.
I'm either going to rip the foam out of the 600 and use it to store my stage snake, or put it on ebay. [OT: anybody have a good solution to storing a 35' stage snake? Right now it rides in my mixer case, but I'd like to distribute the weight a bit better.]

I use wooden cigar boxes, cut a piece of soft (but firm) foam to fit, outlining each mic to for a firm fit without having to force it in. I've got a couple that hold up to 6 or 7 mics. Depending on the size though, you can get two dynamics or two to three SDCs or 1 LDC per average sized box. Of course I don't travel with any of them so I don't have a need for super-commando MicCase2000.

If you want a "custom" case really on the cheap, try checking a Goodwill or other thrift shop for a suitcase or trunk that is in a size to your liking. Then go to a furniture repair shop and have them cut you some foam to fit the case.
Most suitcases will not be high enough to store the mics vertically, but there should be enough room to store them horizontally. You might get lucky and find a cosmetics case, tool box, fishing tackle box, or other case that is just the right size.
I lucked out when our office dumped a whole bunch of Hardig cases that were used to ship computer tape cartridges to/from our shop to a disaster recovery site. I use them to store all of my cables, pedals, microphones, and other gadgets.
I keep all of the foam that our new servers come with and I cut them with an electric carving knife for very clean cuts that don't crumble over time. I'm not a big fan of "pull apart" foam cutouts because the foam eventually wears out over time as you keep removing/replacing mics and other gadgets in the case.

The ones I scared up were from LM Engineering and are a good 4" deep with the diced foam inserts. They aren't the thinner, flatter ones like the eBay ad. Although I did get one like that for my wife's bar chimes.
The other thing to look out for is full-size camcorder cases. Since camcorders have gotten so small, you can often find these brand new for peanuts in local camera stores since almost nobody uses them any more. Same deal, foam top and bottom, diced foam in the middle.
