Anybody know what kind of mic sits on the Dave Letterman's desk during his late show?

Thanks

LOL... It's one of those ribbon thingies, right? :D

Yo RE:

Better not lie or that ground out there in California will start shaking again!

Looks like a pretty good mic.

The mic on Leno's desk looks like an AKG 3000 type.

I wonder if they still use those huge overhead booms on those shows?

Check your quake insurance.

Seriously though, it's an RCA 77... Although, don't know what release it is (it's either a D or DX). I'm pretty sure it's just a prop mic... But yeah, certainly is a good mic! I personally am waiting for AEA to release their new ribbon, a 77 looking mic!

Don't remember what Leno's looks like... But off the top of my head, isn't some 414 release with the windscreen/pop filter on it?

And yeah, they certainly use boom mics!

Yo RE:

Thanks for the information.

One oxymoron I see is when the Tonight Show's announcer says,
"...and Featuring Kevin Eubanks and the band...."

I've yet to hear the band on the Tonight Show do one song, aside from background and fanfare.

What would you consider a good price on an AKG 4000?

Appreciate your input.

Size matters not.

Hoping that snow accumulates not on your roof.

Spring is happy.

Don't know how much 4000Bs usually go for... They've gone as low as $200 up to $350 used on Ebay. New, seems like $450 is common.

Either way, wouldn't be my pick for a mic... I mean it'll do, but considering others out there for the price... Then again, I say that for every current AKG mic, so admitably, I'm probably a little bias. I don't own any current AKG mics nor any old AKG mics right now. I had a pair of C451s, but sold them quite a time ago because they needed some repair (one was dull as hell and the other was noisey as hell... I KNEW I shouldn't have! SPA would be modding them with 0.9 micron skins right now if I hadn't! DAMN ME! Harvey warned me too!!!

Oh well, will just have to pickup a pair of bodies sometime this year and pickup a pair of omni caps as I find them. Either that or pickup a pair of Milab VM44 Omnis, Pearl TL66Ks, or a pair of the Josephson mics! Then, eventually have SPA mod them!

Oh, by the way, it should be noted, if the RCA 77 on Letterman isn't a prop mic, then it's probably some-sort of small condenser inside an RCA 77 housing!
