Cure Cover - 100 Years

I'm not a Cure fan, so I am not familiar with the song, but the recording kicks ass. Nice work Cloneboy. :)

From now on I'm only posting my own personal work/music. There are too many limitations for recording and mixing other people's work.

Vocals and bass were a friend. Everything else was me.

It was still nice. Welcome back, FWIW! ;)

Hehe...anyone else see the irony here? So you are only posting stuff you cover from other artists that you had someone else do half the work on?

I get it.

Anyhow, I love the Cure and this doesn't do them justice to my ears.

Granted you may not like the vocals (after all--who sounds like Robert Smith except Robert Smith?), but sonically this crushes the original. (Granted it was recorded in 1982 in a not-so-top-notch studio and probably deliberately left fairly raw.)

I think you just have sour grapes.

Well, amazing, you almost nailed the quality level of their 82 crap recording...not quite but close. Big deal, you are not adding a thing to the song by covering it. So what's the point?
What would I have sour grapes over? I don't like people covering stuff half assed, especially when it's my favorite artist. All this shows is that you can listen to a recording and TRY to copy it.

Covers suck, go write something worth a damn.

You are such an idiot. Anyone that has heard the original *KNOWS* that this is miles ahead production-wise.

Truth is you have nothing positive to say--EVER, and bring NOTHING to the table... just like all losers.

*ENGAGING IGNORE MODE*

I am also a Cure fan and this cover sounds great ( don't like the voice though ...too americanish )

Well, if I may add.. I don't know the original too well, but I do recognize the vocals, at leas the attempt to sound simmilar. May I be the first co compliment your vocalist-friend for getting close to something that is basically unreachable..

I like it..

Cloneboy,
Not a huge Cure fan although I do like some of their songs.... I really enjoyed this version of this song, and will keep it in my library! Good Job! I liked the vocals!

I know this posting is older - but I just came up on it.

Sonically - the quality is great. Although it appeared to lean to the left side a bit - but maybe those are my headphones. And it does blow the original version away in terms of fidelity. But I dig old post punk recordings for their lack of depth - they were pioneering - naive - dangerous - cool. Now days, bands are trying to cop that sound whilst using all the great studio advances and it feels insincere in a way. But I would take Franz Ferdinand over Switchfoot any day, dig?

Pornography is my favorite record by the Cure next to Disintegration - so I am very familiar with this track. First off - and this is a matter of perspective - it was too orthodox a cover to be really interesting. And in Cloneboy's defense - that doesn't mean its a bad cover...Infact - he could easily pass it off as a great "real" recording of the Cure live - it sounds very close to the version played on Trilogy DVD - or when I saw them last summer - just big and full. They have been playing Pornography cuts for the last few years - 100 Years in particular - they play it heavier than the 82 disc when out on the road.

I think Cloneboy's recording is good - even appropriately "muddy" in places - and Pornography is very murky at times. So - I am not knocking this effort. In fact - its hard to deviate from such a great signature sound and arrangement. I would cover Figurehead myself - and I probably wouldn't change much except for some instrument arrangement.

And non-Cure fans should just cut the track some slack. If you aren't familiar with their early material - then this effort may be lost on you.

Cloneboy - what guitar setup are you using for the Smith sound, yo?
