Cubase4 CPU overload problem

Just installed C4, playing a couple of short audio samples in cycle mode and flicking through the channel EQ presets. Keep getting an error message -
' CPU Overload/Audio Dropout detected.' The program carries on running but I can't select anything with the mouse, although the cursor moves as normal. I then have to switch off & power up again.
The only way I can stop the messages is to up the card buffer to 1024.
I'm wondering if that's a bit high?
I can of course switch off the message in preferences but that seems a bit pointless.

Wonder if anyone else has had similar.

i've never experienced that... for the weird stuff it's better i think to check out cubase.net it's the official users site and they've heard it all... though the signal to noise ratio aint all that good there as they also endure all the bitching as well...
