1st the set up:
Cubase VST/32
Midiman Uno (USB)
Yamaha PSR-292

Obviously alot more than this. But, i'm breaking down to the simplest items...

So far, i've been doing only audio. Now, i'm getting involved in the Midi functions of Cubase and have some questions. Probably just midi questions, but questions none the less.

I open a new project and select the first midi channel. Press record and start playing. TX/RX of data and we're done. Quantize, double click and move some stuff, etc...

Here's the problem.

I originally played it with the 'Grand Piano' selected. Now, I don't like that and want it to be, say, a B3 organ, or a cello, or whatever. Same stuff, different sound.

HOW DO I CHANGE THE SOUND?!?

Thanks for any help...

It's been a while since I have used VST, but it and SX are pretty close to the same I think.

What you want to do is in your track inspector you will see your device in and out, your MIDI channel, and then you should see something to the effect of "program" or "pgrm". That is the patchname and you will want to change it. If you have a file for your device loaded up, you will see patchnames that correspond to your instrument. If, like me, there isn't a device file for your unit (mine was an older Kurzweil) then you will have to improvise with the MIDI patchnames that are in there by default.

I can't say thanks enough. Spent the last 5 hours in the studio working midi out in my head and on the screen. Got ahold of it now, I think, maybe, ah hell. Who knows.

You set me on the course, and your info was bang on..

Thanks.

yOU MIGHT aklso want to ask around and see if anyone has bothered to do a script file for that keyboard. Is it General Midi compatible? If so, any script with the general midi names would work for you.

A script allows you to select patches by name. Much easier than changing program and bank numbers.

Mmm Kay..

Anybody have a "Script" file for a Yamaha PSR 292?

Yes, it is GM compatible. How do you build a script file if somebody doesn't already have it?

script file

I will see what I can find for yoy and PM you if I find something.

XG file

Cubase has an XG script file that should work for any GM instrument. If you're not sure how to set up a script file, there are instructions in the online PDF. If you're still confused, let me know.
