Hello,

Anyone so bold as to have tried the new Cubase 4 beta with 32 bit vista? I am pitting Cbase 4 against Sonar and still have not made my mind up as to which I'll go with. I really dislike that Cubase dropped DX plugins. And as I have toyed with a copy of Cubase LE I got with some gear,I am not impressed! I open the program to a blank screen with no ability to import audio. At least Cakewalk opens with a basic template!
One other beef I have with Cubase already is that they have no sample demo to try before you buy like Cakewalk Sonar does. One more strike and I think its byebye Cbase.

I'm not sure what you mean....are you looking for something with say...I dunno 16 MIDI tracks or half midi half audio already loaded?

I haven't used Cubase 4 yet, but there are templates in SE. You can set it up to open blank, last project, or with the template options in the preferences. Are you saying these no longer exist?

I think maybe it just because its Cubase LE, apparently its so stripped down theres little you can seriously do with it. I had an mp3 and I could not even import it into LE. It does open blank screen and I suppose I am used to having a few audio and midi tracks load automatically. I am glad to know there are templates. My acid pro and my ableton will load just about anything.
I wish there were a way I could test drive the actual Cubase 4. Maybe Steinberg are a little apprehensive about a demo. I have and was using their V-stack and it did a decent job. To me the V-stack looks identical to the gui of Cubase LE.
I am not here to start a Cubase Vs. Sonar debate but so far it does appear that Cakewalk has several advantages. It accepts both VSTi and DXi plugs, seems to be way ahead in terms of code written for vista. Yes it still does combine a midi and an audio track to use the VST stuff. That isn't too inconvenient. Both seem to have freeze capability.
Maybe its just my perceptions but it seems Cakewalk has a much better repore with potential customers in terms of the info you can get from the web site.I hate dongles and I think Cbase uses one. Am I right?
I know I have been stuck a few times before because I left a dongle at home(Korg Digital collection).
Most of the European software companies seem less forgiving in terms of making you pay more for an upgrade and charging more than their American counterparts for similar software.I just learned that My NI kontakt 2 will cost me before I can use it in Vista.
These companies all knew Vista was coming a year ago,why are they all taking so long to get us upgrades?
