Sorry for the new post, but I've look for and cannot find a way to try out Cubase. My trial version of Audition expired but before I buy something I want to make sure it's right for new. I have gleaned that I cannot "trial" Pro Tools as it requires hardware. Is there a site for a free trial version of Cubase and while I'm on the subject, anything else I should try (I realize there will be a bias as this is a Cubase forum) Thanks.

There are no "newer versions" to try out.

However, there IS a Cubase5VST demo linked to Steinberg over on:
http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/win95/MULTITRACK_RECORDING/

(That's how I chose between Cubase and Sonar, downloading the demo packages there).

The basic workflow is the same as the newer versions. And you can look through books like "Cubase SX Power" by Robert Guerin in the bookstore to see the features of the newer packages

It's more than enough to make a buying decision.

Better yet: ftp://ftp.steinberg.net/Download/Cubase_VST_5/5.2.pb1/Pc
This is where you will find the full version of Cubase VST 5. This is the last version until Cubase SX 1 came out. It has been released as freeware. It is not quite like the current version of Cubase but it gives a good idea of what Cubase is like. If you like Cubase VST 5, expect the latest Cubase (SL3 or SX3) to have more functions, better support for everything you might need, and a better look and working feel.

Get in touch with your local dealer. Mine sent me over a promo disc of SX3. If they know you are serious, they often have demos lying around.

"...I want to make sure it's right for new."

Sorry Tim, I believe "new" is a typo - I meant to say, "...right for me."

That is an update, not a working program. It does not work.

What made you think it was a fully working. free download?
