I just got Cubase SX and I was wondering how do I initiate the Mic in Cubase so as to get sound to record

Read the manual...i really have to repeat myself...

To record, setup your soundcard/audio interface from the Device options.
Press the 'R' button on the track so the track is armed for recording. Simply just choose
the designated input and output you want for the track you want to record.

I would think someone who invested in such expensive software would know what they were doing.

My suggestion is calling the guys at Steinberg, they`d be thrilled to help you.

Yea..exactly..thats what i mean. Why buy Cubase SX which costs like 600 bucks+ and possibly not to know how to record!! Thats the most ultra basic thing one can do in Cubase or any other recording softwares!

There is such a thing as a beginner, y'know. And the whole record enable thing is a little weird if used to just hitting record on tape deck or VCR. SX has the additional "huh?!" of input channels, as well. This is exactly where I'd ask for help if I couldn't figure that out.

But seriously- the manual is your friend. Cubase used to ship with a "Getting Started" guide or some such. A very good place to start.

Yep we all start from page one. I find that getting a signal into cubase is kind of weird when you start creating busses both INPUT & OUTPUT. Then having to choose them correctly in the mixer panels and making sure the REC button as stated is pressed. But I just keep on guessing and when something works right I make a note for the next time. That helps.........knowing what did not work and how to make changes that will produce a recording. Can't say it is easy at all, but I enjoy the challenge.........would be nice to attended a studio and watch Cubase do its thing. Instruction is hard to find......I have purchased several CDs off he web that are not that clear. But each bit starts to add up and I am still hopeful at becoming a Cubase Happy someday.
