Hello all,

I need a favour from someone who owns cubase studio 4.

Im running a lot of virtual instruments on LE4 at the minute, and will be soon upgrading to Studio 4. I was wondering - does studio 4 give the capability for unlimited VST's? I understand you have unlimited 'instrument' tracks as they are now called, but Kontakt 3 (my sampler) has 8out and 16out modes.

Will studio 4 allow me to run as many instances of kontakt as I want in 16out mode without using instrument channels? All I would do is route the MIDI signals through certain channels of Kontakt. I find it annoying having an instrument channel for each instance of the sampler, seems like a big waste of system resources.

Many thanks

Word of advice, dont upgrade. Cubase 4 is utter garbage and has given me nothing but problems, and this was on a custom-for-cubase computer built for an audio engineering lab. They completely rewrote the program to be "lightweight" but all they managed to do was break functionality.

Is this a view shared by the community?

What would you recommend instead? SX3?

I upgraded from le to Essential 4. Lets me record more than 8 tracks at a time.
But it does not have the midi and video features like Studio 4.

Since i only do rock and roll type bands, Essential works for me.

Plus it was only $100 from Steinberg. They were very helpfull when i called

and their tech people know whats going on.

seems like every prog has a detracter or two... i;ve got C4 here and got no serious complaints... and to the other guy... have ya contacted steiny about the problem???? i've found them to be sorta helpful when met half way... to the OP... check out the cubaseforums.com you'll find some pissin and moanin but pretty helpful for the most part... alswo your puter determines to a huge degree how many instances of whatever can be run simultaneously...
