Looks like similar questions have been asked before but I'm still stuck...
What I want to do is sync my Tascam 488 cassette 8 track to Cubase SX using the JL Cooper PPS-1 Smpte to MTC converter.
The problem is, it's not working.
Here's what I can tell you about the setup:
1.) track 8 striped with smpte generated from Cubase SX
2.) smpte comes out "sync output" of the 488 (my understanding is that this output defeats the dolby NR).
3.) smpte into the "from tape" input of the PPS-1
4.) midi in and out connected to PCs onboard midi through joystick ports
Cubase settings:
- "time code source" = midi time code
- "midi time code settings" = all midi inputs
Cubase is NOT the "master"
SYNC is online
So... when I press play on the tape deck cubase should play along, right?
nope. The "locked" light on the PPS-1 does not come on and cubases' sync indicator just keeps saying "idle".
I am not positive that the PPS-1 works as I just bought it used but it seems like there's not much that can go wrong with it and the seller seemed trustworthy.
Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
Also, if anyone knows anything about the PPS-1 I would love to know:
- does it only work with a certain frame rate?
- what do the "fast/slow" options do?
- what frame rate does it output if you generate code from the box, and what kind of code does it generate? SMPTE of FSK?
(obviously I never got the manual. I love buying used gear.
Anyways, any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
