I have a firebox...and cubase le...ok heres the thing...I have xp sp 2....512 ram...but after like 8 or 9 track takes...the program just gets so sluggish its unusable until it says not responding...on top of that I start hearing some distortion or popping in my headphones once cubase starts acting up...now I have tried reinstalling no luck..I was practicing mixing today and using some eq effects on a chorus and it just did not agree after I got to the 9th take on the track...Not enough ram? im new to this so any help would be appreciated..thank you

More RAM could well be just the ticket. Its the RAM (or lack thereof) that directly limits the amount of tracks you can use at one time without things getting sluggish.

you make no mention of what effects you have on the tracks

Reverb for example is a CPU killer

even with an older half ass pc you should be able to run more tracks than that, depending on your hardware specs.

what latency/buffer setting are you running the firebox at? what's your pc specs and configuration? cpu, memory type, number of hard drives, hard drive speed, firewire card chipset, etc.

the more specific you are about what your doing and what your running, the easier it will be for someone to help you figure it out.

i recommend cleaning out your system....

a. shut down all unnecessary processes (if you havent done so already)

b. use a prog like 'hijackthis' to expose any possible nasty and useless processes..

these could be eating up your memory pretty easily...

also remember to shut down any antivirus youre running.. theyll suck it dry too

a side note.. i found a little prog called 'ccleaner' which found 500mb of useless files on my harddrive... keep your harddrive cleaned and defraged...

i ran an older computer (450mhz) with 512 ram and was able to do many tracks without problem (older cubase though)

travis is right .. more info would be helpful...
