Well I'm not sure if the problem is in Cubase LE 5 or in the Zoom H4n portable recorder that I'm trying to connect to but here goes...

I finally got my registration settled for the Cubase program. Then I downloaded the latest ASIO driver for my Zoom H4n. When I try to switch to the Zoom H4n in the "Device Setup" page in Cubase the popup comes up asking if I what to switch to the driver I selected. Then I clicked "OK" and a popup comes up that says "Error Initializing ASIO Driver. After I had installed the new driver for the recorder it did work a few times, but the output wasn't cooperating correctly. When I unplug the recorder and plug it in again it won't let me switch to the H4n driver and therefore I can't record.

You help is much apprieciated...

Sorry if this is obvious, but the H4n is connected and powered up when you select it?

Actually, it always works best if you have your interface turned on before opening Cubase.

Yes, that's what I've been trying. I must have something set wrong in the program because the output is fine with any other program.

Is your firmware updated on the zoom?

Yes, I just updated the firmware on the Zoom and did the maintainance in the eLicenser Control Panel in hopes of solving the problem, but it did'nt do the trick.

Alright, I got ahold of Samson tech support and I think we have the problem figured out. He said it is probably because my computer is too full and it can't properly initialize the ASIO driver.

How full is your computer? Sounds like BS to me.

I am not that tech savy myself, but why would a little driver be affected by a 'full' computer? If Cubase opens, then you must have some room there. I am curious as to how challenged your computer is, and how this answer came about from Samson. I'm calling BS on the advice you have been given as well.

Yeah that sound odd.

I know this is wierd, but I've had problems with cubase crashing when I tried to put to much on the USB bus (power wise and this was on a mac pro).

I asked for to much power and cubase failed.

I does seem a little confusing, but I did what the tch said and deleted a lot of unused stuff from my computer and restarted the computer, reinstalled the ASIO driver and it worked fine.
