I'm using Cubase LE 5 and upon first installing it it worked just fine, but as I had it for a longer period of time it crashed more and more. I've try getting rid of plugins I don't use and that worked for a while but then it started to crash again. It seems to crash most frequently when I close out a project and then go to close the program but I also get frequent crashes when I'm working on a project. Especially if I duplicate an audio track or undo deleting and audio track. Is there a way to get Cubase to run more efficiently?

What computer do you have? How much ram, processor speed, operating system?

Have you tried reinstalling Cubase?

I've try getting rid of plugins I don't use and that worked for a while but then it started to crash again.

Also, if reinstalling doesn't help, you might want to try getting rid of plugins that you're actually using. I know I've had some issues with some plugins causing Reaper to crash, but not unless I used them.

I know it's not my PC's specs, I did my research when I bought it. Got it specifically so it could handle DAW. I've thought about re-installing it. It was definitely my next step if there wasn't any other possibilities.

Try doing a de-frag on your hard drive(s). It can sometimes work wonders. Also, I find that Cubase will crash if I try to close a project then immediately close the DAW. It seems to need time to digest the closing.

Yeah, I re-installed Cubase and I'm still having it crash on me upon start up when it's initializing the plugins. Now it gets stuck on one that didn't give problems before hand. So I re-installed that plugin and still no success. I think I may need to do some reformatting on my pc at this point. I think I may just switch over to Reaper at this point. I have had noting but inconveniences with Cubase from the start. They just do not get a long what so ever.

If it is a bug in the software, check to see if others are having it (on the Cubase site, somebody will be complaining if there is a bug). No need to chase something you can't fix. Seems like you are doing this, but just to confirm.

(Assuming Win-X)Otherwise, you have most likely something wrong with your Audio Interface or its drivers. Defrag will not help, that would help with I/O performance, but not this issue. But you could check hard disk integrity as it could possibly have a bad spot(s), (use the check drives for errors under tools) bad sectors could corrupt drivers/software/OS and cause an error.

Last, you could have either have a bad hardware unit (it happens that some part of the manufacturing process had a flaw and you hit the flaw at some point in the process and causes an error/crash), or your drivers could be corrupt (try removing them as completely as possible, reinstall), look for an update, etc. to the interface drivers. Swap USB ports, just to check.

Lastly, and not very likely, you could have a bad RAM memory. If there is a flaw in it, you could hit a bad area causing the issue. Also, CPU could have an issue, but these last two things are getting to be so rare, I rarely check for these days and just has a low probability, but it could happen. (This would be a last resort kind of thing)
