Cubase freezing

Hey all,

I got the tascam US144, seems like a great little machine...

anyhow, problem is I am running it on a laptop hard drive 4200rpm and it freezes after recording a couple of tracks.. if I got an external hard drive running at 7200 would this solve the problem.. or am I way off base here??

I may have asked this same question a while back when initally buying the US 144, apologies for the repeat..just want to be sure...

What do you mean by "freeze"? Do you mean you get audio drop outs? Does the disk overload "light" on the transport in cubase come on when it freezes? This would indicate that the disk drive can't keep up with the traffic.

A 4200rpm hard drive isn't really fast enough for recording music, although it depends how many tracks you are recording/playing at once and what resolution/sample rate you are using. Generally, the faster the drive, the more tracks you can record/play at once.

If the disk is overloading as describe above, then yes, getting a faster drive will help.

basically cubase just stops responding and I have to disconnect the usb and reconnect it or restart cubase.

so the fact that the laptop is 4200 and the external is 7200 is cool??

don;t really know a lot about how this stuff works .

Don't think that is an issue with your disk drive speed. Sounds more like an issue with the tascam driver to me maybe. Try checkling for an updated driver.

This may be way off but try reducing the buffer size a bit and also check to make sure you meet the recomended requirements. I had that problem until I made a serious upgrade on my comp.

Buffer size... well I have heard of it, but have no idea where it is...lol... any easy guides...

I was thinkin of getting a desktop with a lot of hard drive and memory etc,

just did not want to have to buy another computer.. but it might be easier all round...

the laptop meets the spec for the tascam alright....

thanks
