Hi folks. I'm trying to get it together and turn my computer into a studio. I'll be using a g4 and I got a delta 44 soundcard. I guess I'm just starting to get nervous as to whether or not 24 bit recording sounds good.
I used to record on a 1/2" tape machine, and after that a Roland VS 840. The 840 bummed me out - it's compressed audio and you can hear little bits of distortion in the low end.
I came to understand through some articles at www.digido.com (a great resource, btw) that poor to mid-grade a/d converters have a really hard time processing low frequencies -ultimately something to the effect that they crowd each other and cause distortion with out really nice filters.
I guess I'm just trying to find someone who's posted music somewhere recorded in 24 bit or on a delta soundcard or cubase, etc. I'm assuming it's going to be really good (some parts of the roland thing I loved) but I'm just trying to do my homework.
thanks alot.
