Cubase and Firepod install problem

Got a new Firepod, installed on pc, updated firmware, called tech support because I cannot get an audio track on cubase to receive mic feed from Firepod. Firepod gets Blue sync light, shows clipping of mic when hooked up, has output from firepod headphone jack, but nothing on the track. Tech support confirmed all my setup is correct including vst inputs and multi-track. I have a 1.9ghz machine and am using an Iogear Firewire card dedicated to the firepod. One oddity is that I could not get it working, came back the next day and had it record a vocal from the mic input for 10 seconds - but nothing had changed from prior day. Again, with nothing changed, a few minutes later I could not get a track to record. Can anyone help?

Check you firewire card and find out what chipset its running.

From the presonus website:

• ATI RADEON 9000/9001 IGP video chipset. Symptoms are consistent clicks and pops during audio playback. This video chipset is only found in PC laptops and is entirely integrated as the computer’s only video controller. We strongly recommend that you do not get a system with this chipset, as there is currently no workaround for this incompatibility.

• USB/firewire and s400/s800 combo cards are not compatible. Symptoms are usually no audio recording/playback but device will install and sync, erratic audio performance and rarely will not allow the device to install or sync. We recommend a firewire card that ONLY has s400 firewire connections and preferably with a Texas Instruments or VIA chipset.

• Firewire cards with NEC chipsets are not compatible. Symptoms are similar or the same as combo cards.


• NOTE: brand new PC's from major manufacturers are often loaded with software that is not needed to produce audio and will actually hinder system's performance. It is absolutely vital to your system’s performance to disable or uninstall all unnecessary software when working with audio interfaces and applications. It is best to have a dedicated audio system on which you have only installed the applications you intend on using.

IIRC, IOgear uses NEC. I would get an adaptec, never saw any problems with those

i had the same problem, it would go in out, record for 10 secs, no meters. first check the vst inputs, just to make sure 1-8 are highlighted. i found out i actually had a problem with my hardware, and had to send it back. if this is the case, go with it, presonus takes care of it right away. once you get the machine working its great by the way, so dont give up. try the other firewire port on the firepod, it that doesnt work somethign is def wrong with the hardware. it was a bitch of sending it back, but i it has to be done it has to be done.
