Cubase 7 - Mixdown Loudness Issue

When I mixdown my tracks, the output file appears louder or more coarse than what is being bounced down. I'm not sure where this extra information is coming from.

If I duplicate the output audio file, and drag it into a new empty Cubase project .. it seems to playback fine. Adding to the confusion, the duplicate waveform's statistics match the original.

I don't have any additional plug-ins plugged in. I don't have my control room going.. and the VST connection settings are exactly the same between projects, so I'm kind of at a loss here.

I know it's gotta be user error, but appreciate any help.

It just sounds like your volume is up in Media Player or whatever you are playing it on. The master out level of Cubase is honest. It seems something else is making you think there is something wrong.

Please give a bit more detail as to what you are doing here. :)

Hey man, well.. I'm importing the bounced audio directly into the Cubase project itself. Making sure to mute all other tracks, or solo only the track that's playing back incorrectly.

Kind of running into an even bigger issue now, I notice that when I add certain plug-ins as inserts, they seem to affect the signal bypassed or not.

Might you know why this would be?
