Hello Cubase forum dwellers :D I don't think I've ever even posted in here!! Here is my dilemma:

I have been running Cubase 4 LE (forgive me for being lame :() for about 2 years, and I am looking at upgrading to Cubase 6 because I now qualify for the educational discount :D However, my computer is still running Windows Vista. I've heard somebody mention that Cubase 6 only supports Windows 7 or something like that....is that true? Hard to find such simple info on the internet

Well, only W7 is supported, but users have still found ability to use XP without fault. Not sure about Vista tho. Check the steinberg.net forums for more info there.

WTF are you doing with Vespa-Vista anyway? lol!

Get C6 dood. Way better! Oh, and prepare to learn more......

Yeah there is a ton more you can do with the full version of cubase. You will be able to hit the floor running, but for a lot of the under the hood stuff you may find yourself going "what does that do?!" haha

Cool thanks guys! Hmmmm seems at least one guy on the Cubase forums got Vista to work with Cubase 6!

Two more questions though... :D

What's the deal about this "Cubase 6.5" coming out a few months ago?

And do you think there's much of a difference between the full version of 6 and the Artist edition?

6.5 has some new synths, and a few bug fixes, that really don't friggen matter to most users. 'Artist' is almost as limited as LE. Just get a full version of 6 dood. Trust me.......

Yeah dude, I totally will! :) I think it's like $290 with the education discount so it's not too bad!

JRRshop.com : Steinberg Cubase 6 Educational Edition [cubase6educationaledition] - $299.00USD

get 15% off for memorial day!
I should let you know that jrrshop seems to be taking an inordinate amount of time in shipping it out.
ive ordered thrice from them in the past and everything has arrived quick and with prompt updates.
this time they haven't updated my order status from processing and it's been a week. maybe it's just a computer error
I suspect it to arrive tomorrow though.

6.5 was pretty pointless for me.
6.0.5 or 6.0.6 or something was released as a free bug fix. So that should have you covered.

Yeah I had a company do that one time...just sat there "Processing" for a week but really they just hadn't updated it. Unexpectedly just arrived at my door one day!

Hmmm 15% off huh? Not bad :) Thanks for the heads up!

Just emailed them.
They say it's shipping today :(
at least they replied to my email quickly.

Avoid some frustration. Get your PC running on win7. It may work on vista, but do you want to record or troubleshoot.....

Don't have the spare cash for both Cubase and Win7 :(

Heck, between tuition, book costs, and gas/food I'm surprised I have any money at all :D

I realized soon after I posted that it's easy for me to say that - but life get's in the way. I just sold some of my toys :-)

Haha no worries dude :) Yeah I've been thinking about Craigslist-ing off a few of my cheaper mics lately too.

All you need is Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit OEM. Here. Or Here.

Hmmmm interesting! Such a low price too. :D So that'll bump my laptop up from Vista to 7 for me? Does the OEM label make any difference with that?

Yep, OEM is just a version that can only be installed on 1(one) computer at a time. That is why it is cheaper. Plus your student discount. :)

Ordered the student-price edition of Cubase 6 yesterday for $255! (got a 15% off coupon :D). Hopefully I'll be able to get Windows 7 this week from my school...they've got it for $60. In-place download too, so that's pretty sweet :)

Congrats man. You are well on your way to nirvanaville. :) Yeah, it's a place....
