hi all. after initializing a newly installed cubase on vista a window pops up that says: ASIO direct sound full duplex driver " at the top of the window. then it says: "the currently installed soundcard driver does not support direct sound input.recording audio is not possible". can anyone say what this means ? thanks

You cannot record audio with Cubase with built in soundcard i believe. You need an interface. :D

You can use the full duplex driver but it's going to be über slow. Yes, I said über. You will not be able to work comfortably on it and that will make life suck balls to a heinous proportion.

What you need is ASIO4all to use your onboard soundcard: http://www.asio4all.com

Otherwise, yes, you need an interface.

Once either is installed you'll need to change the audio driver in the Cubase device manager to the relevant audio driver for Cubase to run correctly.

Happy trails.

Cheers :)

Sorry to jack thread but how do you get the dots over the u? :D

ok . will check out the all driver. actually i got the cubase from a zoom G9.2tt guitar effects processor i bought a while back.hopefully in a few days though i'm going to get a multitracker. not sure yet , maybe a DP-02 , zoom R8 or possibly an R24 even, or a BR-800. not sure yet. still looking it over. i generally wanted to become familar with the cubase before getting the tracker.i should be able to do playback and such from say , windows media player or other sources?is that correct? don't know how to get dots over the letter either, but it may be a foreign language character.

Using the character map in XP.

In XP it's Start -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Character Map

Don't know how to do it in Win7.

Cheers :)

has there been any issues with no sound out of the pc speakers? i believe i have a realtek stock soundcard in pc, that uses the GS wavesynth, drivers are updated.the ports selected for output are the realtek speakers and i have tried different drivers (in which there are ASIO full duplex, ASIOall 2.0, or a generic low latency driver). i have hooked up a Casio keyboard and it records the track as i can see it and the input /output is showing sound but i cannot hear any. if i select the Casio midi output in inspector it will play back through the Casio itself. but i cannot get it to play out through the realtek pc speakers. like if Cubase is open on the pc i cannot listen to any youtube or other audio.it is fine when Cubase is closed.
