Cubase 5 recording problem

Hi all,

I'm completely new to Cubase and have just installed it over the weekend. I followed all the instructions in the user manual (the smaller 'Getting Started' manual) and everything was going great. But I tried to record some guitar, following the instructions in the manual again, and I don't get any audio in the recording. This is exactly what I'm seeing:

The left level indicator on the Transport Bar shows that there's audio getting there, as the green bar bounces up and down as I strum the guitar. However, the level indicator on the Inspector shows nothing at all. I went ahead and recorded but there was nothing picked up. I've followed the instructions to the letter at least 10 times now and fiddled with some settings on my interface (M-Audio) but it's still the same.

Can anyone on here be my saviour? This is really frustrating.

Thanks,
j

Going on blind assumption but you have configured the VST connections to allow inputs and outputs to where you want them to go, followed by selecting the in and output for you audio track yes?

second of all your sure its an audio and not instrument track?

no sound

I had the same problem when I first got going years ago and it was exactly what previous poster suggested...also be aware I was actually able to reach a human on the telephone at CUBASE central....where ever that is...

Hey,

Thanks so much for the replies. I'm just getting time to get back on here after a super-busy work schedule. Well, I don't know what I did at all, but it started working on its own steam a couple of days ago. I recorded some stuff last night and everything was cool... recorded, mixed, played back everything I wanted. I turned the computer on today & when I opened Cubase it said that my outputs weren't 'mapped'. I went into the device manager to set up the input & output busses but my interface isn't on the list. I've tried restarting, deleting & re-entering the busses etc, but my device isn't even on the list like it has been every other time I've used it. Therefore, I can't playback or record... can't do anything at all. I haven't changed anything on the computer or interface since it has been working. Any ideas folks? It's really frustrating.

Thanks in advance.

What M-Audio interface are you using? Make sure to go to the website and download the correct/most recent driver for your system/OS.

And by 'Device Manager', are you talking about Windows? You would select your M-Audio interface as your default sound device in Windows, but you need to select it in Cubase as well. Devices>Device Setup...>VST Audio System. Select the M-Audio from the drop down 'ASIO Driver' menu. If you wish Windows to use the interface for playback of whatever, while Cubase is open, check the 'Release Driver' box on that page as well.

Jimmy.... you legend!!!

It's the Fast Track Pro. It was the ASIO Driver part that needed to be changed, as you mentioned. For some reason it had reverted back to Full Duplex... no idea why as I never changed anything. Still, it's all sorted now & you have just saved my brain from frying for the rest of the weekend!

Thanks so much, man.
