Cubase 5 and midi

I'm trying to use cubase midi for 1st time. I want to use VST instuments with midi. I can record the midi music track and it plays back and you can hear it, but when you record you can't hear what you are playing, What am I missing?

sounds like you need to engage the monitor button?

Did you hit that 'monitor' button?

Other than that, it would be an output bus issue. Or, wrong connection to your monitors/speakers/interface.

Okay, buffer setting adjusted. All good now.

Monitot button is ok. Speakers and all cables are fine. All midi inputs selected and outputs set to kontact 5 instrument. Midi is recorded and plays back fine. No sound when recording

Kontact works fine in stand alone.
