Hi there!
In the last few days i've had massive problems with Cubase 5.
My OS is Windows 7 x64, and my audio interface is a Cakewalk UA-25EX.

I've never had too many problems (just some crashes), but in the last few days cubase it's making me feel miserable

1) I connect my audio interface, then I start Cubase (as usual), but it won't load!! Freezing at initialization: vst audio system
I try to force the exit from the program (also trying to kill directly the process), but it just stay freezed. If I try to shut down the pc, windows will just stay eternally in the screen "shuting down windows"...so the only solution it's a forced shut down holding the power button.
I already tried to re-install my audio interface's driver...it worked at first, but then same old story.

2) Cubase starts, I open the project I'm currently working on, BUT it won't load! it freezes during the mixer loading!!
I've read about a workaround: creating a new project, opening the faulty project without activating it, closing the new project, and activating the fautly one. This worked a couple of times today, but when i tried to do the same thing later, I couldn't load the project anyhow.
only solution it's a forced shutdown holding the pwr button!

3) if God wants, sometimes I can work for some hours, but then of course I need to close Cubase...well, it won't close! same as before...the only solution it's a forced shutdown holding the pwr button!

Usually after point 2 and 3, I'll have the error in point 1. (when i restart the pc, I do it with the audio interface disconnected, since I read it's a better thing to do).

All this is really driving me insane...1st cause i can't work on a recording I'm doing in these days, 2nd cause I've to shut down my pc 100 times, and that's not good.

My opinion, there's something wrong with some plugin. I should probably reinstall everything, but it will take forever because of all the plugins, so I'd prefer finding a solution.

Thanks,
Alessandro

Any time I've ever had a major Cubase problem, it was because of a VST plug-in.
Instead of uninstalling all your plug-ins, just uninstall a couple recent ones, see if that fixes anything.

It's also interesting that directly killing the process doesn't work, as well as the shutting down bug.

When my PC workstation starts to crap out on me inside software as well as the OS itself I just back up all my files and do a complete reformat of my system drives. It'll take around 3-4 hours to do it but honestly doing that every 6 months or so keeps my computer running fast and clean.
While you're at it, open up your PC case and take some compressed air to it. Clean out the dust and crap from your fans/hardware.

If you do reformat your computer take your time when re-installing Cubase and the 3rd party plug-ins. Try to install ones that you know have been running properly then open a couple projects and install a few more plug-ins. If you get an error at least you'll have a narrow range of plug-ins to scan.

And if that doesn't work... well at least you've got a nice tidy workstation! But seriously though, my desktop gets so full of random garbage that reformatting really helps to keep me organized.

Hope this helps, stay focused on the problem. Troubleshooting is a pain in the ass! :cursing: :)
