huh???
I want the click track to be an actual track that I can control with the faders.

Is that possible?

I've read the manual and it doesn't look like I can do it.

Or maybe there's a plug-in (free) that someone knows about.

Thanks,
D

Yup. I never use the built in metronome of any daw.

Make a midi track of quarter notes.

Depending on what sound you want for the click you can either use:

Soundfonts like a drum set using Cakewalk's free SFZ soundfont vsti

or

.wavs using a free sampler plugin like the free Shortcircuit from http://vemberaudio.se/shortcircuit.php

MIDI click tracks can also be turned into pure audio tracks for zero cpu hit.
You also have more control and options.

OK. I'm a MIDI idiot. I've got my MIDI track made. I've got MIDI notes on every 8th note (6/8 time) and I can hear it an control the volume. The problem is that the audio from the midi is not in time with the song (which was recorded using the metronome in cubase.

I'm assuming that it's because of latency, but is this normal and can I fix it?

Thanks for the help.

That is odd, What are you using as a MIDI instrument. Can I assume then that the built in click is in perfect time?

I'm at work right now, but I believe I'm using the built in Windows WaveSynth or something like that. Should I try to use something like EZ Drummer? Would that work better?

And yes, the built in click is in perfect time. I actually recorded the song to the built in click.

It seems such a pain to create a midi track, assign an instrument, create the midi notes........I just want a simple click track that I can control with a fader. Of course I'm probably doing all the hard way.

Thanks for the help, btw. :D

There is an easier way. I'm actually surprised that this isn't common knowledge. I HATE that stupid default beep that cubase comes with.:

1st thing, you NEED a drum VSTi. (halion might have a preset that will work, I don't mess with it that much so your on your own if you want to give that a shot).

This one works fine for the purpose of showing you this: http://www.sonomawireworks.com/drumcore/downloads/#DrumCoreFREE

You have to have the above installed or this won't make sense (NOTE: This doesn't work in cubase LE version 1 and 4 <never used 5> for some reason, I HAVE TRIED IT. In LE you have to setup an instrument track and write in the on/off notes and make your own click. It sucks but it's the way it is):

For essential, studio and 5 though (this method works for versions 4 and 3 as well):

First (essential and studio won't have this many menu options but this item is in all versions of cubase):

Then this window shows up:

Load up drumcore 3 (might be in a different directory, I'm picky where my plugins are located so they are easier to navigate through)

When this screen shows up hit cancel (you don't need a midi track):

The gui for drumcore 3 should pop up, when it does just get rid of it. The default kit that loads is the acoustic kit and the one you probably are going to want. There is also a electronic sounding kit if you want to mess with it.

If you started a new project with no audio or midi tracks your edit window should now look like so:

Ok now we need to tell cubase to use drumcore for the click instead of that shitty beep nonsense:

Un-check this shit:

Activate midi click:

This is what it looks like when you check it (those notes might be set different though):

You want it to look like this (if you want to use the high hats instead for the click sound find that midi note and use that, C#1 is for the sidestick sound):

Screenshot2010-12-02at35632AM.png

That's all there is to it, now the C button will turn this click on and off instead of that stupid beep sound. :)

One other thing to note:

For some reason whenever I quite cubase and re load a project that I setup with midi click it becomes disconnected in the metronome setup. So you have to re navigate to that window and set the output to drumcore again.

Kind of sucks and I have no idea why it does that, but again just the way it is.

Dude, you ROCK!!!!

I already have DrumCore3. I'm going to try it this morning when I get home.

Have some rep!! :D:D:D:D

Thanks,

D

Wait guys, I'm remembering now that this WILL work with LE version 1. It definitly does not for LE version 4 though (no idea if it does in 5).
