cuality of RECORDING / EDITING: Software matter?

Hi everyone,

I am a cool edit pro user.

i would like to know if the software matters in the audio recording/editing cuality.

I use 2 laylas audio cards to record in my PC.
if I choose to record in another software then CEP,
is the audio cuality affected??

i mean, the mics are the same, the mixer/preamps are the same, the audio cards are doing the D/A convertion... the software matters the AUDIO CUALILTY??

--------- also, is there any difference talking about audio cuality in DirectX plugs vs VST plugs if they are the same brand, like waves??
