Is it possible to get an a crowd effect by using only one vocal track. I'm talking like a stadium sort of crowd. I am recording a cheerleading mix and I need a crowd chanting certain phrases. I also wanted to use this effect in a few other songs I have but wasnt sure of the best way to achieve this, or anyway for that matter. Thank you.

If you only want to use one track to get a stadium crowd effect, you might have to fill up a stadium to do it :D

I think if you want that vibe, you might have to get as many people as you can muster in on the chant, then track it several times. Personally, I'd go with a stereo setup, maybe ORTF, XY or even a Jecklyn Disc for a sense of space and move the people you have around from take to take. Maybe add some big reverb too.

I've never had occasion to use quite this effect, so I'm just telling you what I'd try short of hiring several thousand extras or trying to bribe the jumbotron operator at a major sporting event

good luck!

Recently I have done a crowd simulation by taking 3 guys and tracking them 5-6 times and in different positions to acheive the desired effect. You could track 5 or 6 tracks then bounce them to one?

I played a huge stadium once, but all they shouted was "Get off, get off, get off"...I don't spose that's what you want hey?

I always have cheerleaders asking me to make them mixes...and how can u say no to a cheerleader.

and nope, dont need 'get off', but that would be pretty cool to hear. what kind of music do you play?

Record the chant a few times by whispering it loudly and add a good amount of reverb. Then mix that with some tracks of normal chanting.

It's easy when you find out they have no trouble saying "No" to you. :D
