my engineer, who recorded my sessions in protools, copied the session files outside protools directly to a DVD on his mac. i get them back to my place and, on a pc, and make copies and send them to someone to open on a mac. will they work?

before you answer, let me relay you my experience. short answer: no. i have been told that copying the files outside of protools originally was the problem, and i was also told that copying the DVD’s in windows messeed them up. i haven’t opened the original DVD copies in either pc or mac, but, their clones were identical, bit for bit, and i need to know if there could have been some data morph between copies. that’s nutty butter, right? this is a problem with the original transfer?

please, someone save my soul.

not getting anything. maybe to re-phrase: ok, say the session gets saved to a data DVD on a mac. then, i take it to a PC and make a straight DVD copy - no open session, just a straight burn . . . is this going to do anything to the data to make the new DVD unreadable in protools?

I dont know a lot about pro tools but from the sound of it, if you are just making a straight copy of the disk then yeah it should work. As long as the original disk worked in the first place. It should be an exact replica.
