This was recorded last weekend at a bands competition. Audio is taken from a video so the quality isn't the best, I eqed it as best I could to get an ok sound. Anyway I'm not looking for comments on the recording, just the songs itself - performance, structure, overall 'goodness' etc:
The Gallows

Cheers,
Neill

There s really not enough definition for me to give an opinion due to the lack of capture, and too much capture of the ambient sounds around whatever was used to record it. I do hear a tight punchy drummer. Singer hits the marks. Sounds like it was recorded close to the beer wagon or hot dog stand.

I listened to it but it's so bad recorded that I couldn't recognise the melody; though, I think the singer is not bad..

cheers

Likewise with the other opinions thus far (including the singer).

Did you win the competition?

Song Comments only: Hmmm... very... live. U2-like tone on gtr. Someone was going out of tune... sounds epic, what I can make out. When it gets loud/crazy... the thing just sounds a jumbled mess... can't make out what anything except the drums are doing... okay here we go. Singing. Bet you guys play some U2 covers, eh?

Hmm... all I'm getting is the energy off the track, and a few stray words. The beat in the quieter parts I CAN make out... and it's groovy.

When it gets loud, everything gets undefined... no mix of anything  sorry :( The energy DOES come across, tho.
Vocalist does sound decent... drummer is o.k.... powerful, if not a human metronome :p

I once wrote a song called "Woman at the gallows"... t'was the gayest song I ever did write :p Yours is much more manly ;) (eh... I think ... from what I can make out :D)

Could we get a more polished recording of this? Would be more fair to assess the song by....

Thanks for the comments guys. We got picked as one of 15 other bands out of 45 to go through to the next round where we must come in the top 2 to qualify for the national final. We're hoping to do some studio recordings, I'll keep you posted. You can in the mean time visit our web site - www.inverseorder.cjb.net if you're interested.

Hey Strat, I tried to check out the song, but I got to some enternet home page. Is the link still valid?

Sorry I forgot that I changed the file name for the web site. The amended link is:

Well, pretty hard to hear - as was mentioned - but sounds pretty tight to me. High energy, jam-band-ish kinda stuff. Any plans to record this for real? Sounds like it would be fun to record - lots happening (especially with the drums).
