on a post i did earlier called fate rocks the nation i gott quite a few posters, anyway this song was recorded by me and the whole song was performed by mike lumbert the guitar player from fate, the recording was done on cakewalk pro 9 and i used waves tools to master it and mix down. please have a listen and let me know what i can do to improve, also the song ice blue is a new one from me to although im not crazy about hte mix on it, i just dont know how to do nay better, thanks guys, tim pate http://www.nowhereradio.com/artists/album.php?aid=1751&alid=-1

Yay...it's on Nowhere so I can listen to it.
Sounds good...good bass sound...drums sound good......there needs to be more to the song though. Gets kinda repititious....no leads or vocals....just rhythm guitar and the same parts over and over. Good drumming. You definitely have some skills, I'd like to see you elaborate on them.

Mike's Song?

First, I'll start by saying I like this. Like the lieut said, the drums do have a nice timbre and someone for real is sitting behind those skins but this seems more like a recording experiment than a song.

I also hafta say the drums seemed to get a little repetitive.

Actually, after a second listen, I'm starting to feel like this would be very strong candidate for jingle music. Have you thought about post-production commercial sound?

Just what I heard.

I think it's pretty cool! Did you use an e kit for this one? Dunno, but it has that electronic feel to it. Good mix too.

Like milesmaxwell, I hear definete 'jingle' qualities to it. Background music for a furniture commerical or something. j/k :)

That is, in the state that the song is in. It is repetitive, the one major flaw with this song is that there is nothing really providing a main melody. The odd time you add the picking guitar, that's cool but it doesn't fill out as a whole melody. Sounds like backing tracks.

You need another part to this song outside of just a melody, but an enitre other section to break it up a bit.

The drums drive well, good back beat. Very synthetic sounding though, but in this context, they sound ok.

Lots of choices:

- make it a short instrumental filler (as it is now)
- add a lead guitar or something to it to provide a melody and leave it as instrumental filler.
- write some more parts to it and add vocals providing the lead melody, add another section to break it up.

I enjoyed it though, upbeat.

Whoever rated this thread 1 star needs a bullet through the head.

thanks for the coments.

actually like i said i didnt play any of the parts on this song i just mixed and recorded it live, see my friend lives in nashville now and only comes up to michigan a few times a year and when he does we record a few. weve played together since we were young. the drums actually came from my keyboard and were hand played by mike. he had to go back to nashville before the song could be finished, im gonna add some lead to it,im not much for vox but i can sing when i have to but i sound a bit like jim morrison of the doors so im told. i will try and post somthing soon with vox on it.thanks guys im just looking for some comments on the mix i used a 200 dollar keyboard for the drums and base its a yamaha psr280 and it dont sound to bad but i will be upgrading soon i hope to a real drum machine and a bass guitar. thanks tim pate

Thank You!

I was about to post a link to some of my favorite bands!LMAO!

Nice playing on this.

For some reason, the mix sounded really really low on my machine ... I turned up my speakers all the way and I could barely hear it...I don't know if that is on my end or if it is the mix ...

Anyhow, this has a nice groove to it. Real kind of easy listening driving music. Nice job!

absolutely what this says..ok now i just read the rest of this post..ops....the mix is pretty good i think the guitar since it is really the only hting goin on on this needs to be out front more...and yes "lead lines"..would do wonders for this ..but as a starting point i think this has potential its not like its a droning sear into your brain sound just doesnt(as yet)..go anywhere,...hope this makes sense im not trying to sound like a jerk lol

Ice Blue... hey, I'm diggin' the congas that come in toward the end, very cool. This one needs some kind of lead track, but the pads are good. This one also seems to have been cut with levels very low, although there's no hiss.

Mike's Song... I agree with what's been said above... good potential here, just needs some fleshing out. Drums aren't bad in this, maybe just a slight bit thin.

Good potential in both of these.

Ice Blue ... is real low and seems like you eq'ed it too much or something... sounds interesting but needs more if it's instrumental...

mikes song ... is that acc gtr pluged in or elctr gtr pretending to be acc :) ... I agree with above comment for the most part ... the playing is good ... needs a horn section IMHO :) ... but it's not finished so it's hard to say which way it's going to go...

cheers
